Wow! I didn’t expect to find that!
Faith, in preparation for writing this Faith Update on prayer, I went to the “cloud” where I store many of my digital files. I was looking for one thing but I stumbled upon something better. It was a file called 2AM Prayer. When I looked at the name of the document, I found it puzzling. I had no idea what 2AM Prayer was and didn’t remember ever crafting it. Curious, I opened up the document and found a prayer I’d typed out to God one evening at 2:00 AM over two years ago!
What did I find? Well, the specifics are probably too personal for a medium such as this, but the substance of the prayer was big—not big like asking for a boat or a sports car. Big like asking God to grow relationships in love and grace and for His glory. The prayer essentially asked God to take existing relationships and grow them so they bore loving fruit for His kingdom. And as I read my 2AM Prayer today at 12:00 PM (two years later), I was overwhelmed to see how God had answered that late night prayer in ways beyond what I could have hoped or imagined.
Last Sunday in my message we talked about John 15:7, “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” Out of that verse I said I believe God was calling us to…
- pray fruit-bearing prayers
- prayers for God’s kingdom above ours
- prayers molded and shaped by the word of God
Jesus said prayers like that get granted! Wow!
Now, I’ll be honest. That 2AM Prayer was not especially eloquent or poetic, and I don’t remember being especially saintly that day two years ago. As I read it now, though, I see it is a prayer for the fruit of love to grow between people and God. It’s a prayer foremost about God’s priorities not mine, and it’s a prayer molded and shaped by the word of God. Out of those values I asked and I received—not only me but others! Praise God!!!
So, just imagine for a second, Faith Covenant Church! What if today we each wrote out a fruit-bearing prayer—a Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done prayer for our church?! What if we asked God to do what God would delight in doing? Perhaps two years from now we might stumble upon them and marvel at a simple prayer answered in ways far beyond our hopes and imaginations!
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done at Faith Covenant Church, Lord!
May we all pray daily for our church!
Trusting and abiding,
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Small Group Survey
At Faith, we believe that growth happens most effectively when it occurs in the context of relationships, and we strongly encourage all of our attendees to participate in a small group. To make sure all have that opportunity, we plan to launch some new groups this fall. To do so, we need your help! Our “Small Group Survey” is now live on-line and you can participate by clicking HERE. We are asking ALL attendees to take one minute to complete this; your participation is vital as we make plans to ensure that there is a place for everyone!

If so, can we know God well enough to trust Him with the most sensitive areas in our lives? Even more, do we know God well enough to love and obey Him in whatever He asks of us?”. All are welcome – please join us!
“Ask” Series Prayer
Holy God, Savior, and King,
Give us the faith to ask.
Give us the boldness to then ask again.
Give us the joy of knowing You hear,
And help us trust Your answer is love.
In the name of the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit we pray.
