As I was nearing my twentieth birthday I decided that I wanted to leave my teenage years with a bang. As September drew near, my friend and I purchased Mega-Bus tickets to Chicago, arranged our lodging, and got tickets to see one of our favorite bands, U2, at Soldier Field. U2 has been a favorite band of mine since I was a young teen, and this experience was one that I had dreamed of since then. As the best concert of my life drew to a close the band started their last song, “40,” which is one of my favorite songs of theirs. The song, “40,” is based off of Psalm 40 where David begins by writing, “I waited patiently for the Lord…”
Each time that I listen to this song, I am reminded that I don’t do this.
I have followed Jesus since a young age, but I have still not mastered the act of waiting “patiently for the Lord.” Rather, I often find myself asking for something in prayer and expecting it immediately upon “Amen.”
Are you like me?
Do you wait impatiently for the Lord?
Let’s learn patience together and while we do, let’s rest together in the words of Psalm 37, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act…be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.”
Grace and Peace,
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
All Church Missions Donation Drive
In lieu of Faith Covenant’s annual Missions Garage Sale, we are holding a Donation Drive on Saturday, July 11 from 10am-4pm in Faith’s parking lot. Please take this opportunity to donate things you are no longer using to those who are in need in our area. Bring your items to Faith, where they will be unloaded for you directly onto a Goodwill truck. The M.O.M.S. Program will receive the proceeds from this drive, based on the amount of items donated.
Finding Fruit VBS
VBS will be onsite at Faith Covenant and we will be partnering with a team from Covenant Pines Bible Camp. VBS is scheduled for the week of August 10-13 from 8:45am-3pm for grades 1-6. The VBS theme is Finding Fruit and is based off of Galatians 5:22-23. The cost for VBS will be $8/child/day. Kids can attend any or all of the 4 days. Register online at faithcovenant.org. We do still need volunteers to make VBS happen. If interested in volunteering, please contact Lynn at firstname.lastname@example.org or Dan at email@example.com.
July Sermon Series
This coming weekend is America’s celebration of independence. Many folks will be busy celebrating with family and friend gatherings. Still, what a great time to also receive this coming Sunday, July 5, as a celebration of our dependence upon God’s declared covenant for us in Christ Jesus! The Rev. Dan Clites will be our preaching guest this Sunday, and throughout the month of July, as we begin exploring a new 4-part message series entitled: Faith Beyond Belief: Pledges, Problems, Promises and Provisions!
Faith Food Outreach
Sign up in the lobby to volunteer at the July 13 food distribution! There are many ways to volunteer, and an hour or two of your time can make a real impact in the lives of the 300+ families we serve each time from our community. Shifts are available from unloading at 1pm, to distributing food at 5pm or cleaning up at 6:30pm. We also need donations of children’s books and stuffed animals. Please drop off at the Connection Desk. For questions, contact Beth at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Next Saturday morning, the CHIC team, consisting of 17 students and 5 adults, will be leaving for Knoxville, TN. CHIC is the only conference that gathers all students from the Evangelical Covenant Church in one place for a time of worship, transformation and fun. The students going are Jake Eitreim, Gavin Froese, CJ Kuplic, Will Northway, Hannah Nybakken, Carrie Olinger, Gabe Olson, Hank Olson, Jackie Resh, Erika Rotvold, Haley Schindler, Gabe Segura, Kelly Segura, Kurtis Sorensen, Burk Substad, Trent Substad and Kiersten Ziegler. Leaders are Andy Lee, Autumn Olinger, Kavan Rogness and Jen Sorensen; and JD Kuplic will be driving the bus. Please pray for a safe journey and meaningful times at CHIC and with friends.
