A Holiday Interrupted
Posted on Dec 21, 2017 in Faith Updates
“We interrupt this perfectly good shopping season for this divine intervention…”
If you actually do have a moment to read this brief message today, I have a word from the Lord for you: “Breathe!” And on behalf of all my friends and family at Faith Covenant Church, I pray, “Lord, slow us down.”
When we stop long enough to think about it, this month is madness! I like what Pastor Rick Warren says about December:
Think about this. In the first place we cram 80% of all the parties we’re going to have in a whole year in a three week period. If we plan it just right we can go to 9 or 10 in one night and not enjoy any of them. Then we say, by the way, while we’re at it, let’s entirely redecorate our house inside and out in three weeks. And since we’ve got plenty of time, let’s buy something for everybody we’ve ever met. Let’s bake every cookie we’ve ever heard of. And let’s consume three times the number of calories we would have in three months in three weeks. Just to make it fun let’s think up everybody we’ve ever met in our life and send them a letter. We’ve got plenty of time. Then just to top it off, let’s let the kids out of school for two weeks. And let’s plan every great movie of the year to come out during that two week period so we have to take them to the movies over and over. It’s no wonder you’re tired and worn out.”
I think what Pastor Warren described we could have thought up all by ourselves. It’s the Emmanuel—God with us in a feeding trough, we could have never thought up on our own. The Christ-child is a divine interruption pulling us back to true north and what is really important. Amidst the busyness of this time of year God saves us from ourselves and bids us stop and wonder anew at His revelation.
“And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son…The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God…”
Why has He revealed Himself so specifically? He loves us.
The Almighty cries from a manger: “I love you. Will you love Me?”
While the holidays are helpful to our economy, Christmas is the rescue of our eternity. This Sunday I pray you, your family and friends will join us as we come to full-stop and kneel at the manger and share His eternity-changing good news.
Grateful for you, Faith Covenant!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Christmas Eve Invite
Our Christmas Eve services (10:15am and 4:00pm) are planned so we will thoughtfully and creatively share the good news of Christ. We hope you will invite your friends/family to come hear about the hope Christmas offers! It can be an easy invite: “Hey, do you have a church to celebrate Christmas Eve? My family and I would love to have you join us at our church!” We also have a Christmas graphic that you can use to let your Facebook and email friends know when our Christmas Eve services will be held.
