A Remarkable Faith Covenant Church

re·mark·a·ble (rəˈmärkəb(ə)l), adj. worthy of attention; striking.
- synonyms: extraordinary, exceptional, amazing, astonishing, astounding, marvelous
- antonyms: ordinary
When something is remarkable, it’s worthy of our attention, our notice. Simply put, it’s worthy of our remarks! We had a remarkable Super Bowl a couple weeks ago. How do we know that? People remarked about it the next day.
Jesus was remarkable. Large crowds gathered around Him and remarked about Him:
- “Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.” Luke 5:15
- “The news about Jesus spread quickly throughout the entire region of Galilee.” Mark 1:28
- “Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, ‘We have seen remarkable things today.’” Luke 5:26
Why did people remark about Jesus? He wasn’t ordinary! He was extra-ordinary, exceptional, amazing, astonishing, astounding, marvelous…REMARKABLE!
We are called to be a remarkable church! Why? Because Jesus was remarkable and we are His body on earth. So how do we build a remarkable Faith Covenant Church?
In Jesus’ prayer in John 17:21, He prays to the Father, “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one…And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” In essence Jesus here prays our oneness in the Father, Son, and Spirit would be so remarkable that the rest of the world believe the Father sent the Son!
Let us pray for remarkable oneness!
Listen to how the Apostle Paul remarked about the church at Thessalonica: “…for wherever we go we find people telling us about your remarkable faith in God” (1 Thessalonians 1:8). He then goes on to say how others were talking about how these early Christians “turned away from your idols to God so that now the living and true God only is your Master” (1 Thessalonians 1:9. Simply put their trust in God was so extra-ordinary, people were talking about it!
Let us pray for remarkable faith!
There are many things people find remarkable about churches—remarkable music, remarkable light shows, remarkable preachers. This is not our calling. 1 Corinthians 1:31 says, “If anyone is going to boast, let him boast only of what the Lord has done.” We are called to grow remarkable disciples of Jesus who boast only in what the Lord has done.
It is my prayer Faith Covenant Church would be so Christ-centered that we would resonate Galatians 6:14, “Far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
So let us pray for less of us and more of the remarkable Christ marking His remarkable church!
In His remarkable Name!
