Ambassadors of Christ for our Enemies
Posted on Feb 23, 2017 in Faith Updates
This Sunday is going to be a very special Sunday at our church!
As we’ve been journeying through the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), we come this week to Matthew 5:43-45:
“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.
Knowing this important text was coming, I reached out to my friend and mentor, Dr. Jim Olson. Dr. Olson is the president of the Pilgrim Center for Reconciliation. PCR is based here in Minnesota, but their reach is worldwide. The Pilgrim Center was one of the first Christian organizations on the ground in Rwanda after the genocide. They sat down with Hutus and Tutsis crafting a path toward loving each other through Christ-centered reconciliation. Their work has born fruit locally and globally by turning enemies into friends.
If we are to make disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus here at Faith, then we too must learn the Christ-centered path reconciliation. I hope you won’t miss this very important Sunday!
“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.” 2 Corinthians 18:19-20a
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Ash Wednesday Service
Join us for a reflective time of worship as we pause to prepare our hearts, our community(ies), and our world to receive in a fresh way the final week of Jesus’ life, including his suffering and betrayal, death and despair, and the miracle of LIFE ushered in with His resurrection on Easter morning. Service will be Wednesday, March 1 at 7pm in the Legacy Chapel.
Twenties & Thirties Bowling
Join Faith Twenties & Thirties for a night of bowling March 11 at Brunswick Zone in Lakeville! All who are in their twenties and thirties (and their friends and kids) are invited! We are planning to bowl from 6-8pm, and cost is approximately $14 (includes two games and shoe rental). Please RSVP by Sunday, March 5 to Ryan at email@example.com.
A Fruitful Harvest: Age, Loss, & Transforming Life in Christ
Getting older is not for wimps! If you’re in the autumn or winter seasons of life (which begins in our 40s and/or when the kiddos leave home), it may seem like life is closing in. But did you know that the “losses” of aging can hold the hidden gift(s) of a wide and deep new reality in Christ? Join us as we lovingly share together the wisdom we are learning on the way and look at a key biblical figure who has lots to say about this beautiful, maturing and generative season of life. Saturday, March 11, 8:30am-12:30pm. Cost: $30. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Financial Fitness Class
Is it possible to move from panic to peace in our finances? Faith is welcoming Financial Fitness coach Dave Jacobson to our Wednesday nights for 4 weeks (March 15, 22, April 5, 12) to help us tackle our debt, plan for the future, and manage our relationships with others and money. Cost for the class is $47 per household but no one will be turned away if money is an obstacle. Sign up Sunday mornings at the Welcome Desk. [Note: Dave Jacobson does not sell any investments or insurance products, which leaves Coach Dave free to be entirely objective in his teaching.]
Church Council Positions
Are you looking for another way to serve at Faith? The Nominating Committee is currently looking to fill some open positions on our church council. Serving on the church council is an opportunity to grow by helping to discern God’s will for Faith Covenant Church. If you are interested in serving or would like to recommend someone, please email Kavan Rogness, email@example.com.
New Staff Welcome
Faith is excited to welcome Anna Farrell, who will be the staff liaison for Guest Services. Anna comes from Crossroads Church and will be welcoming new guests, facilitating connections to ministries, and coordinating our wonderful volunteers. Anna may be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 952.890.3110.
