Faith Covenant Church

An Intentional 2018

Posted on Jan 4, 2018 in Faith Updates

Welcome to 2018! A brand new year! A brand new chapter! What are your hopes? What are your dreams? Want to make a difference with me in 2018?! Look at what Pastor John Maxwell writes about making a difference:

“If I wanted to make a difference…Wishing for things to change wouldn’t make them change. Hoping for improvements wouldn’t bring them. Dreaming wouldn’t provide all the answers I needed. Vision wouldn’t be enough to bring transformation to me or others. Only by managing my thinking and shifting my thoughts from desire to deeds would I be able to bring about positive change. I needed to go from wanting to doing.

God has called all of us at Faith to be difference-makers. To do so, we will have to continually turn our good intentions into intentional living.

I hope it’s no secret to you that Faith Covenant Church exists to make disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus. That’s a great intention! Now, how do we turn that good intention into intentional living? We will have to actively equip every disciple to disciple another.

How are we going to do so? This is my shameless invite to join me for worship Sunday, January 7th for my annual State of the Church address. This will be an opportunity for us to look at where we’ve been and where we are going this new year.

It’s said there are three types of people:

  • Those who make things happen.
  • Those who watch things happen.
  • Those who wonder what happened.

Which type of person do you want to be at Faith Covenant Church? A watcher, a wonderer, or a maker of difference?

In faith,
Pastor Brad

Here’s What’s Happening at Faith

Memory Verse of the week

Pastor Brad issued a challenge to our faith family in last week’s blog post: to memorize 52 Bible verses in 52 weeks. These verses will be posted each week in this Faith Update blog and will be in the worship folder each Sunday. Here is the first verse for 2018: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17

State of the Church Address

In lieu of a formal congregational business meeting this month, you will hear from Pastor Brad this Sunday. He will update us on the state of the church at this time. The council is still busy pulling together campaign numbers, construction details and seeking God’s direction on moving forward. Look for a scheduled congregational business meeting toward the end of February or beginning of March. But, please, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask a council member or email council@faithcovenant.org.

Adult Sunday Grow Class

All adults are invited to the 9am grow class starting January 7 on the Book of Romans. Paul’s letter to the church in Rome is an intelligent, articulate presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Facts are presented, the case is built, and the Good News is offered as available to ALL people. Join us as these words are brought to life powerfully and personally – and the call to share this Good News and “make disciples” takes on fresh importance! What a great topic to start out the new year – hope to see you there!

All Church Tubing and Fellowship

We’ve scheduled some wintry fun for all at Buck Hill’s Tubing Hill, Wednesday, January 10, from 6:30-8:30pm. We would love to see you there to snow tube or to just hang out and enjoy some fellowship in the Hillside Room! Please stop at the table in the lobby on Sundays, now – January 7, to buy a ticket. If you buy tickets with us they are $8; they will $12 per person the day of the event at Buck Hill. Children must be 5 years of age and 42” tall to tube.

Alpha Mid-Week Grow Class

A new Wednesday evening Alpha course will be starting on January 17, 2018 at 6pm. Alpha is a 12-week course built for skeptics, spiritual seekers and people new to the Christian faith. Each session involves dinner,  a video presentation and a discussion group where all questions are welcome! Childcare is available. If you would like to join this class, please register HERE. If you need assistance with this, please call 952.890.3110.

S.H.A.P.E.

This small group study is designed to reveal how God has designed you, and help you see how that fits the intention for which you were created. Each session includes tools that help bring clarity to your future goals and show you how to have the most fulfilling life possible—a life lived for God’s purposes, by God’s design. This study meets for 6 Wednesdays starting January 17, at 6:30pm. Register on Faith’s webpage by clicking HERE.

Men’s Ministry Mid-Week Winter Study

Faith’s Men’s mid-week study will resume on January 17 at 6:30pm. Because we will begin a 6-week series, this would be a great time for any man to join us for the first time, especially if you have found it hard to commit to a long-term study. For further information, contact Chase Lenz at cvlenz@gmail.com or just come the first night!

Weekend to Remember

Attention all married couples or those considering marriage! FCC is again gathering a group to attend this year’s “Weekend to Remember!” A number of us attended last year and were so blessed by the opportunity to spend intentional time with our spouse/spouse-to-be, and we’d strongly encourage you to consider attending this year’s weekend! Dates are February 23-25. Location is the J.W. Marriott, Mall of America. Cost is $100 off per couple if you register through FCC’s group at http://groups.familylife.com/ (FaithCovenantWTR). If you have questions, please contact Bob and Jaymie at bob4mcnamara@gmail.com or see the McNamaras in the lobby on January 7, 14 and 21.
