Faith Covenant Church

Approaching the Throne of Grace

Posted on Aug 10, 2017 in Faith Updates

As we continue to grow as a family of grace making disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus, a team of us have been meeting monthly to create a comprehensive strategy for growing the prayer life of Faith Covenant Church.

Why would we do such a thing? Because we know our loving God is not distant but very present! We worship a knowable, loving God who compels us to approach His throne of grace boldly so we might receive mercy and grace in all our times of need (Hebrews 4:16). And our good friend James tells us:

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16b)

This being true we know the power we most seek in our church will not come from our ministry strategy, but rather our ministry on its knees. Thus, the Prayer Task Force has created mission and strategy for this coming year to lead people into a life of prayer in Jesus’ name through example, teaching, and experiences.

What will this strategy offer us during 2017-18? Let me give you a first glimpse!

Leading by Example:

  • We will seek to provide deeper opportunities for prayer during our Sunday morning services.
  • We will ask all leaders of ministries to model consistent, rich prayers weekly in their ministries.

Leading by Teaching:

  • On Saturday, September 30 we will be offering an all day prayer-workshop, “Intimacy with Jesus”, led by our own Kim Gustafson. Kim is a powerful teacher with a rich life of prayer!
  • In the first half of 2018, I will lead a multi-week sermon series on prayer.

Leading by Experiences:

  • On Sunday, September 3 our Sunday morning service will be devoted to worship and prayer in light of James 5:13-18.
  • On Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 PM, we will kickoff our Wednesday evening Grow Nights with a special all-church worship and prayer service.
  • In the spring of 2018 we will offer a weekend prayer retreat focusing on equipping people for a deeper life of prayer.

What a gift! Our God delights in His people seeking a deeper relationship with Himself! The greatest gift you can give your church this year is your deep, abiding prayers. I pray you will join me on my knees as we head toward an important fall!

Abiding in Him,
Pastor Brad
