Being A Worried Dad
Posted on Jan 22, 2015 in Faith Updates
You ever worry about a change in your life? Maybe it is a change at work, home or where ever you choose to socialize. Maybe your favorite restaurant was shut down, or maybe you used to watch the television show Glee and it has ended. No matter what it is, change can be hard and it can bring worry.
Recently, I had a big change in my life. Most of you know by now that I became a dad. It was all very stressful…and the hospital process….If you were to ask me what the hospital process and having a kid was like, I would say, “imagine you’re drowning, and then some one hands you a baby.”
Becoming a dad was a big change in my life. I was so nervous, so worried about if I was going to be good at being a dad. I mean, look at me. I can barely take care of myself.
But then I read Lamentations 3:22-23. It reads…
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
There is something comforting in those verses. Something that gives me hope. Instead of worrying about the change of becoming a dad, these verses instill hope and trust in God’s provision in my life. They say to me, rise up, it’s a new day dawning. Don’t worry about tomorrow, God’s mercies are sufficient to get through today. Let tomorrow’s worries be pared with God’s mercies. Because when we worry about tomorrow we are not living in the mercy God has provided us for today.
His mercies are new each day. That is what I have to keep reminding myself at 3am in the morning when I feed my little guy. I admit, sometimes I ask God, “ I know your mercies are new each day, but couldn’t you wait at least until 6am to prove that to me?”
It’s true, change can be tiring, but with God’s mercy we can get through whatever we are facing that day. And you know what? I wouldn’t give up being a dad and spending time at 3am with my son for the world!
See you Sunday,
