BROKEN HEARTED CHRISTMAS

In case you missed Eileen's video this weekend...
Greetings & Merry Christmas Faith Covenant!
This Christmas Eve we will have a dynamic celebration called “On Air Christmas.” These services will be held at 4:30 and 8pm and will end with the singing of “Silent Night” by Candlelight. I can’t wait to worship with you!
But what about those of us who struggle at Christmas time? Let me tell you about something unique that we are offering in addition to our other services. It is a Christmas Eve Service for people in pain. Think about it. If you have lost a loved one or are battling through an unexpected heartache, Christmastime can be tough. Songs like, “I’ll be Home for Christmas” or “Joy to the World” can bring tears instead of smiles. In fact, as a Pastor I have observed this repeatedly. I’ve seen that for people in pain, going to church on Christmas Eve can feel very isolating. If you are in a season of grief or adversity even a well-done church service on Christmas Eve might be really intimidating.
Hear the comments of some of the brokenhearted people I know concerning church on Christmas Eve: “I would spend the whole time trying to just hold it together.”…“Why would I want to be surrounded by a mass of cheery people singing songs about joy?” …“Thinking about how much I miss my daughter, I would cry too much to hold the candle straight.” These are people in pain who are afraid to go to church to be comforted…ironically at a time when they need it the most.
With this in mind Faith Covenant Church in Burnsville, MN is holding a simple candle-lit service at 9:30pm for all who mourn. This service is different than our celebratory 4:30 and 8pm “On Air” Christmas Services.
If your heart is broken for any reason, you are invited to join us at 9:30pm on Christmas Eve. For that matter, if you are not heart-broken, but want to support a friend, co-worker, or neighbor who is, please feel free to invite and accompany them. Church is not a building. It is a community called to tell people that God cares for their broken hearts. Yet even thoughtful churches, quite understandably, are often the last place a broken-heart will feel cared for on Christmas Eve. Through passing this invitation or attending yourself, we can help change that.
With Unsinkable Joy,
Pastor Mike Lotzer
