Consistency in Christ

Posted on Jun 10, 2015 in Faith Updates

My wife has this saying that I think is really appropriate in this time. She says, “consistency in Christ doesn’t look the same as consistency in the world.” Isn’t that the truth? In the world’s eyes, consistency looks like staying in one place or one job or one church for a long time – that defines consistency. But consistency in Christ is something all together different. To be consistent in Christ’s eyes means that we are consistently attempting to live in his will. If our focus is Christ, and on him alone, the circumstances we find ourselves in matter a whole lot less. We are on mission for him no matter where we are and no matter what we do.

With that idea in mind, I announced this last Sunday at church that I will be transitioning out of my role here at Faith to take on a new role as the Family-Equipping Pastor at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester, MN. This time has been a mix of emotions. I am very, very excited about my new role, the church, and the city of Rochester, as well as excited about what it will mean for my family. The timing, circumstance, and opportunity are all right for us. But all that said, I am also very sad to be leaving this great church made up of all these great people. We love Faith Covenant, and we will miss it greatly, but we will also cherish many memories (and hope to come back for visits!).

We will be here through July 5, which will be my last Sunday at Faith. Plans are currently in the works (and conversations are happening with possible candidates) to find a youth director in the coming weeks. That is certainly something we can all be praying for.

Finally, I wanted to share a verse that has been a comfort to me in this emotional time, and that perhaps will be a comfort to you:

Hebrews 12:1-3

“…since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

May you fix your eyes on Jesus and let him be the consistency in a world of change, and may you not grow weary and lose heart. God is with you.

HERE’S WHAT’S COMING UP

Town Hall Meeting

All Faith attendees/members who have not had a chance to attend a Town Hall meeting are invited to come to the 9:30am meeting on Sunday, June 14. This is the time to discuss business and ask questions before the Annual Meeting on June 28. The meeting will include the proposed 2015-16 fiscal budget, the nominees for the open council positions, and an update on the Lead Pastor Search, as well as other staff changes.

Cake Reception

This Sunday morning, June 14, we will honor John and Erin Foley, and Jon Oney with a cake reception in the lobby between worship services. It is in appreciation for the ministry they each have done here at Faith Covenant. Please join us and wish them well as they transition to new ministries!

New Summer Worship Schedule

It’s that time of year again! The weather is warm, school is out, and new rhythms are upon us. We’re excited about that and look forward to enjoying worship as a church family this summer. To that end, we will move to one worship service weekly, Sunday mornings at 10am. This new rhythm will begin on Vision Sunday, June 28 (also our annual meeting) and run through Labor Day. Children’s ministry (birth-grade 4) will continue as usual during this time. Parents please note that all children aged up to their next grade on June 1, so are welcome to join their next grade for all summer activities.

Vision Sunday/Annual Meeting

Attention all who consider Faith Covenant your home church: this year’s annual meeting is for YOU! We want everyone who worships at Faith to hear what we’re committed to, what we’re working on, and where we’re headed. To that end, our worship service on June 28 will begin with music and a vision-casting message and will end with staff/council updates and voting on a few key things. Don’t forget: our Summer service schedule begins that morning, with worship at 10am.

Concert of Prayer

Come demonstrate your love and passion for Faith Covenant at a special prayer time on Tuesday June 23, at 6:30pm. We’ll receive some excellent teaching on prayer and be able to agree with God and one another on the plans he has for Faith Covenant. This comes at a perfect time as we prepare for our annual meeting on June 28 and as we pray over the search for a new senior pastor. This is for everyone, you’ll be blessed!

All Church Missions Donation Drive

In lieu of Faith Covenant’s annual Missions Garage Sale, we are holding a Donation Drive on Saturday, July 11 from 10am-4pm in Faith’s parking lot. Please take this opportunity to donate things you are no longer using to those who are in need in our area. Bring your items to Faith, where they will be unloaded for you directly onto a Goodwill truck. The M.O.M.S. Program will receive the proceeds from this drive, based on the amount of items donated.

Pastoral Search Team

The team feels the same sense of urgency that is being felt by many in the congregation. We will continue to balance the need to move forward steadfastly with the reliance on God’s timing in the process. We are finalizing of all of the details needed in order to post the Senior Pastor position, and our intention is to start receiving and reviewing applications by the end of the month. We ask for your continued prayers. Send us an email at SearchCommittee@faithcovenant.org with comments or questions
