Faith Covenant Church

Conspiracy of Kindness

Posted on Jan 19, 2017 in Faith Updates

Hey Faith Family! I’m excited to see all the wonderful things God is doing here at Faith Covenant Church. I’ve been praying and thinking a lot lately on how to share what God is doing through all of us with our community. Sharing the love of Jesus can be an intimidating thing to do with people that we don’t know, but it’s also something that Jesus asks of us. What are some ways that we can share the love of Jesus with others without feeling like we failed, or have been rejected by someone? I think of the ways that Jesus would express his love, and it always was done by him with an act of service. As followers of Jesus we look to him as our example in every form of our lives, so why not in sharing his love for the world.

Many of us have paid for the person behind us in the drive-through, in a coffee shop, helped change a flat tire for someone, even helped someone carry groceries to their car, but have you ever used these acts of kindness to show God’s love as an avenue to remind people that God loves them? I’m excited to share with you an idea of how we can do all those things. We call them kindness cards. These cards will be in the Welcome Center, and available to you! Here’s how they work! Imagine you’re at Starbucks getting your morning coffee, or at McDonalds getting lunch. There’s a single-mom and her kids behind you and you see an opportunity to brighten their day. So as you go to pay for your coffee or meal you say to the person at the cash register, “I’d like to pay for these kind folk behind me today.” The person behind you is going to protest and say, “No, I couldn’t possibly ask you to do that!” Your response? “I would take great joy in blessing you today. Please let me do this!” Then you pay for their coffee or meal and you hand them the card and say, “God loves you so much! Be blessed today!”

Another thing we’d like to do is share our acts of kindness stories with each other throughout the week on our Facebook page. I’m excited to challenge all of us to grab a stack of these cards, go out into the world, and share with people what being a follower of Jesus is all about.

See you on Sunday!
