My first week at Faith has been a whirlwind, to say the least! From meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends, to understanding my role and responsibilities, and to even going to MUUUCE with Jr. Highers this weekend, my first days on the job have been exciting and fast paced. Amidst the hustle and bustle I had the opportunity of joining two Faith staff members in a unique discussion with 13 other Covenant pastors and leaders at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Minneapolis.
As I sat amongst this small group of people, I soon realized that I was at least 10 years younger than anyone else in the room. As a college student I am used to being surrounded by students my age, so being the youngest in the room by a decade was an eye-opening experience for me.
The level of wisdom present was astounding, as each pastor spoke from a heart of sincerity and compassion, with years of experience to go with it. Suddenly all that I had to share seemed rather insignificant in comparison to the depth these men and women brought to the table. I couldn’t help but be challenged to pursue a deeper relationship with Christ. Needless to say, I left this discussion feeling refreshed and re-energized after witnessing the faith and wisdom present in that small group.
The beauty of the Body of Christ is that we are different people of different ages who come from different cultures and different walks of life. We often struggle to embrace our differences, as the recent publicity on social justice issues has reminded us. But in the unique community called the Church, our differences come to together to make known the name of Jesus in our world. Rather than a hindrance to our faith, our different experiences can be used to build others up in Christ. What seems to separate us actually brings us closer; both to each other and to our Lord. For no matter who we are, “there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28). This is the Body of Christ.
I’ve heard it a hundred times, but I couldn’t help but be reminded and challenged once again by this profound truth. Blessings to you all this week!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Concert of Prayer
Come to a special time of prayer for our ministries and for our students and communities as another school year begins. This prayer time will be in the Worship Center on Wednesday, September 9, at 6pm.
Education Hour and New Worship Time
Beginning Sunday, September 13, we will offer learning and fellowship at our new Education hour, which will be weekly at 9am. It is for all ages, and will include opportunities for children, youth and adults. Please note that our weekly worship service will also move to 10:15 am that morning.
All Church Picnic
All are invited to stay after service on Sunday, September 13 to enjoy fellowship and good food at an all church picnic! Food will be provided, but please feel free to bring some outdoor chairs and a lawn game to play. A children’s bounce house will be available.
War Room Movie Tickets
All are invited to attend a showing of the movie “War Room” at 7pm, August 26 at the Carmike Theatre in Apple Valley. It is a powerful family movie on the power of prayer. Because of a generous gift, tickets for this showing are only $5/family, and Faith Covenant will have the entire theatre. Tickets are available in the lobby each Sunday through August 23.
Children’s and Youth Volunteers
Everyone who loves children, raise your hand! We have many different opportunities for volunteering with children of all ages-shifts for every week, or once-twice a month. To volunteer with children age birth-grade 4, contact Dan:firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would prefer working with teenagers, grades 5-12, contact Tommy:email@example.com. All volunteers, new and returning, please note that there will be a volunteer training on Wednesday, September 9 at 7pm at Faith.

Our worship ministry is seeking instrumental musicians to join the worship band. You do not need to be a professional, and the schedule is flexible to your calendar. Thank You, Thank You
VBS volunteers! We love the time, energy, love and patience you gave to our VBS campers this past week. We had approximately 60 children who learned all about Fruits of the Spirit. Thank you so, so much for helping to make VBS a successful week.
