Does God Still Heal?
Posted on Sep 1, 2017 in Faith Updates
This Sunday we will be closing off our summer’s long study of the book of James with this powerful text:
Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops
Eight times James calls the followers of Jesus to pray/praise. So this Sunday we will be creating space within our service to invite people forward to receive prayer for healing after the message. Why? James says we have not because we ask not (James 4:2). So this Sunday we are going to ask! And it is my prayer we will grow into a church that never stops asking boldly for healing for ourselves, our families, our cities, and our world.
In the meantime, please be in prayer for our service. Nothing of any power will ever happen in the church without prayer.
See you Sunday!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Sunday Morning Fall Kick-off
Faith Family, we’re excited to begin another year of life and ministry together! Sunday, September 10 is an exciting morning for us: Adult and Youth GROW opportunities begin at 9am, Children’s ministries begin at 10:15am, Pastor Brad will kick off an important sermon series, and we’re hosting an all-church picnic on-site immediately after worship. We hope to see you there! We look forward to seeing what God has for us this year.
Grow Group – Sunday mornings
When you think of God, what do you see? When you describe God, what words do you use? Join us for an 8 week study on Sunday mornings at 9am that dives into 8 attributes of God: his goodness, sovereignty, holiness, wisdom, justice, love, and faithfulness. Fall more deeply in love with God as you encounter Him as He longs for you to see Him. Class begins September 10. Contact Heather at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“Keep On Keeping On” Grow Class
Calling adults of all ages! Did you know that God’s promise to “never leave you nor forsake you” is a sure thing? Do you believe that God is and will be there in all of the seasons of life? When the storms come, He is there. When you are desperate and don’t have words, He is there. When you face adversity, He is there. When you feel like you’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting, He is there. When you’ve reached the later stages of life and wonder if you’re still useful, He is there… saying YES! Join us this fall at 9am as we share our stories and are reminded of God’s promises and presence in our lives, from beginning to end (and forever). Class begins Sunday, September 17 with a potluck gathering on September 10. Contact Sue for more information about fellowship on September 10.
