Don’t Rush to Fill the Hole!
Posted on Apr 21, 2016 in Faith Updates
Sometimes you know a change is coming and you brace yourself for it. At other times you find yourself caught off guard, surprised by what you see taking place around you and feeling helpless in face of the chaos. But sometimes you realize that a change is beginning and you’re given the chance to take a deep breath and decide how you will respond. What a blessed opportunity that is…
Whenever change occurs, there is a hole. Something is removed that was once a familiar part of your routine, for better or for worse. What do you do when you find yourself facing a hole? Some of the best advice I received came from a mentor of mine, close to 8 years ago. He said to me, “When you find yourself with a hole, don’t rush to fill it.”
Don’t rush. Let the hole be. Let the space be. Trust that God will, in His perfect timing, fill your empty spaces. God is there, already, preparing you for the future and preparing the future for you. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”
May we continue to actively look for God in each new season, ask Him to direct our paths, and trust Him to fill our holes!
See you Sunday!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Q & A Follow-Up
Several weeks each month, Pastor Brad offers the congregation an opportunity to ask questions in response to the morning’s sermon. We have recently added a segment on the “Message” section of our webpage that will allow one to read some of the questions and responses shared during the service, or to read Pastor Brad’s responses to questions we didn’t have time to address. This content will be updated early in the week after Q&A is offered. Go to faithcovenant.org/resources/messages/, or click HERE for Q&A from April 17.
Calling all Children and Youth Ministry Volunteers! We want to extend a big thank you for your service and ministry to Faith Covenant. Our way of doing this is by giving you copious amounts of delicious dessert at our Volunteer Appreciation Open House, Wednesday, May 4. When: 6:30- 8pm, Where: Faith Covenant Cafe. Stop by anytime that night for some dessert and a chance for us to extend our thanks to you! Please RSVP to Lynn Nunn, email@example.com, so that we can be good stewards of our resources and plan accordingly.
This ministry offers support to anyone in the congregation who would be blessed by the gift of a meal after a life event such as a new baby, surgery, etc. We are currently updating the list of volunteers who bring a meal and would love to include new names! Meals do not need to be elaborate, or even home-cooked, to be appreciated, and for each request that we get you can choose to help or not as fits your current schedule. If this is an area where you would like to volunteer, please connect with Char or Jen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
GO: SERVE is a service and outreach opportunity through the Northwest Conference, Saturday, May 7, 10am-3pm. This spring, Minnesota Valley Young Life is beginning a new ministry south of the river called Capernaum: an outreach to students with disabilities, ages 14-21. We will launch our first two clubs on Thursday May 5 and 19 from 6-8pm, with a pizza dinner included! They will take place at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in the Christian Life Center. NEEDED: NEW BABY ITEMS
A baby shower will be held at Breaking Free in May. Faith Covenant’s anti-human trafficking ministry, Faith4Freedom, will be participating by filling ALC bags with needed baby items and Scripture material to give to the new/expectant moms who are coming out of prostitution. Please drop your gifts off at the reception desk at Faith on or before Sunday, May 1 or contact Deb Devine at email@example.com or 612.384.7376. Thank for helping us to speak Jesus into the lives of these women in restoration!
