Faith Covenant Church

As I write this, I’m thinking of the thick blanket of fog I awoke to this morning. How beautiful, how cozy, how mysterious. I could barely make out my neighbor’s house when I looked out the window at 6:15am. And now, a mere three hours later, I’m looking out at a bright, clear, blue-sky-sunny morning, where I could see for miles (if not for the shrubs outside my office window). Both scenes are beautiful, both evoke a powerful emotion, both take my breath away.

Friends, we are living every day in a dim fog of some sorts. “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 (ESV)

What an amazing thought to reflect on! As beautiful as this world is, as breathtaking as a heron flying over a quiet lake, a newborn baby sleeping, a teenager laughing, a puppy chasing, or the soothing touch of a loved one… even these are dim when compared with what we will see on the other side of the life we now know. An entirely different world awaits – the Kingdom of God! And the best news of all is that through Jesus, we are promised that Kingdom, where we will see clearly and face to face, fully knowing, without end. This same Kingdom that we can catch glimpses of even now, while we’re living in this dimly lit place. A Kingdom accessible to us today, right now, one that even in part is infinitely clearer and more beautiful than the best that this world can offer.

This is the reality that we’re talking about on Sunday mornings in our current series: Family Building. Church, we have an opportunity, a responsibility, to train up our children, the next generation of God’s people! To train them to see and live within God’s Kingdom each and every day. I can’t think of anything better…

Enjoy these dog days of summer – see you on Sunday!
