Go Into All the World…

Posted on Sep 3, 2015 in Faith Updates

There’s a strip mall just north of our church that I frequent often. Lunch at Subway or a coffee meeting at Caribou are regular rhythms of my work. I guess I’m a creature of habit, only seeing the familiar, because prior to Sunday I wasn’t really aware of the other businesses in that strip mall. I guess I gravitate toward what’s known… what’s comfortable… and my guess is the same is true for you as well.

But did you know that the rest of the world is present in that strip mall as well? Restaurants and stores owned and operated by folks who originate from countries far away. Foods vastly different than a 6-inch ham and roast beef on honey oat bread (hold the cheese).

About 25 of Faith’s leaders spent Sunday afternoon on a mini-coach bus, taking an Ethnoburb tour of Burnsville with CityVision ministries. We had tea at a great place just doors away from my Subway, and I’ve decided to trade my Caribou coffee dates in for tea at this great little place in the future. The atmosphere is quaint, the tea is fantastic (and I don’t even like tea), and the owners are delightful.

Did you know that (in numbers of parishioners) the Muslim faith ranks second in the Twin Cities (following Catholics)? And Buddhists, Jews, Hindus, and Witches all rank in the top 12 religious groups. In case you’re wondering, the ECC comes in at number 18.

My head is still swimming a bit from Sunday afternoon, but here’s my take-away: our diverse world isn’t far away. It’s right here – next door and down the street! Our call to “go into the world and make disciples” just got a whole lot easier, because we only have to take a handful of steps to meet the world. I’m committed to stepping out of my comfort zone and entering into the world around me this fall… will you join me?

Have a super week – see you Sunday!

Faith Food Outreach

We have been serving 300 – 400+ families each month for the past 7 years at the FFO. We have had many helpful hands and feet assist in making this outreach a success. Currently we are getting only 2/3 of the volunteers needed to continue this event. There is a sign up in the lobby and we need ALL volunteers, new and long time, to sign up so that we know in advance that we have enough volunteers for the evening. For more information, please contact Beth at

Prime Time September Lunch

Our monthly lunch gathering for seniors at Faith will kick-off on Thursday, September 17 at 11:30am with a yummy lunch and remarks from Aaron & Anne Eicher about how they feel called to volunteer with Team World Vision. If you are 55+, RSVP to 952.890.3110 or to reserve your seat. Volunteers are also needed monthly to prep, serve or clean up. If you can minister to our seniors this way, contact Sally at

World Vision Night of Worship

Tickets are available in the lobby for the Night of Worship Benefit Concert on September 24 at 7pm. All proceeds from this event will provide sustainable access to clean water to children in Africa. See Vicki Newendorp or for details.

Operation Christmas Child
