God Gives Us Children
Posted on Aug 27, 2015 in Faith Updates
Although I am 35 and a father to a 2 year old, I recently reflected that God gives us children in many ways, some biologically and some spiritually. In some ways, with my experience in youth and family ministry, God has been giving me children for some 14 years. It is a privilege to invest in the lives of young people and watch God work.
We all come from different paths. Large families, small families, broken families, whole families. What I have found is that God is in the business of restoring all families. And that is why we come together to worship God as the family of Faith Covenant Church. We are seeking a deeper connection to the God who loves us. At our best, we do this together.
To that end, this fall we are excited to welcome children back into our worship space on Sunday mornings. While this is a change to the way things typically go, we feel it is a change that will not only benefit the children of Faith as they grow in their relationship and faith in God but will also help the congregation as a whole.
Our desire is to have children participate in worship, to have children engaged in worship, and to foster an environment of worship where children have a voice. And isn’t that the same desire we have of ourselves? Don’t we all want to participate in worship, to be engaged in worship, and to have opportunities in worship for our voice to be heard?
We have a tremendous opportunity upon us Faith Covenant as we welcome these children in worship. We all: parents, grandparents, friend, or acquaintance; we all have the privilege to invest in the lives of the young people at Faith. While we do this, we are given the opportunity to fully participate in worship.
God truly gifts the church with children. We teach them, and they teach us. Without them, we risk the possibility of becoming rigid. With them, we risk the possibility of being challenged and transformed.

Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Education Hour and New Worship Time
Beginning Sunday, September 13, we will offer learning and fellowship at our new Education hour, which will be weekly at 9am. It is for all ages, and will include opportunities for children, youth and adults. Please note that our weekly worship service will also move to 10:15 am that morning.
Children’s and Youth Volunteers
Everyone who loves children, raise your hand! We have many different opportunities for volunteering with children/youth of all ages, with shifts every week or once-twice a month, on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. To volunteer with ages birth-grade 4, contact Dan at email@example.com; with grades 5-12, contact Tommy at firstname.lastname@example.org. All volunteers, new and returning, please note that there will be a volunteer training on Wednesday, September 9 at 7pm at Faith.
Pastoral Search Update
The search team met this past Sunday evening and has narrowed the list of qualified candidates down to four. In the next couple of weeks we will be inviting the candidates to interview. We will also be sending them information about our church and our community. Please continue in prayer with us as we move through the search process. Contact us at email@example.com with comments or questions.
All Church Picnic
All are invited to stay after service on Sunday, September 13, to enjoy fellowship and good food at an all church picnic! Food will be provided, but please feel free to bring some outdoor chairs and a lawn game to play. A children’s bounce house will be available.
Concert of Prayer
Come to a special time of prayer for our ministries and for our students and communities as another school year begins. This will be in the Worship Center on Wednesday, September 9, at 6pm.
War Room Small Group
This small group study will explore how prayer really is a powerful weapon. It will help us evaluate our spiritual life and growth, uncover our true character, trust in the God of grace, declare victory over the true enemy, and find identity in our Savior. 5 weekly sessions, starting September 14, 7-8:30pm. Sign up in the lobby.
Operation Christmas Child – Box Collection
Please mark your calendars for Operation Christmas Child! We at Faith Covenant will be packing boxes to send to children in need worldwide.
