What comes to mind when you hear the word home?
Home: familiar territory, the place where you are most comfortable, where you can let your guard down, where you most fully relax, where you belong. Home is the place you return to after being anywhere else. It’s where you feel settled, where everything is familiar. It’s good to be home.
But what if? What if there’s another home awaiting us that far surpasses even the most comfortable and joy-filled of earthly homes? God’s Word assures us that this is true!
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:1-8
What type of home is waiting for all of us who are in Christ? A building from God! An eternal house in heaven! A place where that which is mortal is swallowed up by life, where we are no longer away from the Lord but will find ourselves “at home with the Lord.” Forever. I can hear Him saying to me, “Child, you have no idea. I just can’t wait until you come home.”
Friends, Christmas is upon us, the time of year where we focus on Jesus leaving his heavenly home and coming for a time to our temporary, earthly home, to give us a glimpse of His kingdom, a sliver of what is to come.
I hope you’re inviting those who don’t know of this promise, this forever home, to join you this Christmas as we look at finding our Home in Jesus Christ!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Christmas Eve Invite
116 New Years Eve Lock-In
All students are invited to come ring in the New Year with 116 Student Ministries (6-12 grades). It’s the only youth lock in this year and sure to be filled with games, fun and food. Don’t miss out and be sure to invite friends! December 31, 8pm to 8am sharp!!
Adult Sunday Grow Class
All adults are invited to the 9am grow class starting January 7 on the Book of Romans. Paul’s letter to the church in Rome is an intelligent, articulate presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Facts are presented, the case is built, and the Good News is offered as available to ALL people. Join us as these words are brought to life powerfully and personally – and the call to share this Good News and “make disciples” takes on fresh importance! What a great topic to start out the new year – hope to see you there!
All Church Tubing and Fellowship
We’ve scheduled some wintry fun for all at Buck Hill’s Tubing Hill, Wednesday, January 10, from 6:30-8:30pm. We would love to see you there to snow tube or to just hang out and enjoy some fellowship in the Hillside Room! Please stop at the table in the lobby on Sundays, now – January 7, to buy a ticket. If you buy tickets with us they are $8; they will $12 per person the day of the event at Buck Hill. Children must be 5 years of age and 42” tall to tube.
Evening Building Welcome Volunteers
In wishing to be a church that makes an impact in our community, Faith offers our building to several groups throughout the week for meetings and events. Because we also need to be good stewards of the building/resources we have, we rely on volunteers to be at the receptionist desk during these evenings to let people in and direct them to their meeting. Can YOU be one of those volunteers? We have shifts throughout the month that need coverage for 2-2.5 hours per evening. For more information or to sign up, please contact Kevin.
