Hosanna! Lord, save us!
Posted on Mar 17, 2016 in Faith Updates
I wonder what was going through his mind:
“Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” Matthew 21:2-3
There is little comfort in being misunderstood. He knew the crowds would remember Zechariah’s words:
“See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9
As the disciples placed their cloaks on the beast and lifted Jesus’ body upon it, what did they say to each other? Were they laughing? Were there high-fives? Did He smile and laugh too? As the crowds cut down the palm branches and placed them on the road, did the shouts comfort or break his heart?
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Matthew 21:9
Hosanna is a strange word of praise. It essentially means, “Help! Save!” It’s the word a Jewish child would use if someone pushed them in a lake and they couldn’t swim: “Hoshiya na! Save!” That first Palm Sunday was a salvation parade! But victory had not been won yet. And the method of battle none but Him had dreamed. Salvation would come, but at the expense of His life. The cross was five days away, and with each “Hosanna!” he moved ever closer to it.
Join us this week in our last Sunday of Lent, as we too walk toward His cross in this most holy of weeks.
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Good Friday Service
We would like to invite you and your family to our Good Friday Worship Service on March 25 at 7pm. This special service is designed to focus our hearts and minds on the true meaning of Easter and on the Lord’s great love and sacrifice for us.
Easter Services and Brunch
Easter Sunday is March 27, and we will offer two services: 9am & 11am. We will be sharing the eternity-changing message of the Gospel with every person who walks through our doors. Please be praying about who you can invite to service that day! Also don’t forget to buy a ticket to the Easter brunch offered at 10am that morning, sponsored by our youth as a fundraiser for their summer mission trip. Tickets can be purchased in the lobby on Sundays through March 20.
If you would like to donate flowers for Easter Sunday in honor or memory of a loved one, you may do so in the lobby on Sundays through March 20. Flowers will be displayed on Easter Sunday and will then be donated to Meals On Wheels to be delivered to shut-ins the following week.

Please join the council for a quarterly congregational meeting at 9am on April 17 in the Legacy Chapel. There will be updates on the church finances, reports from the staff, introduction of the members of the nominating committee, and a question and answer period.
GO: SERVE is a service and outreach opportunity through the Northwest Conference on Saturday, May 7, from 10am-3pm. It is for families to learn and grow together by extending the hope and love of Christ in tangible, practical ways that you can also continue at home! Cost is $10/family, plus lunch money. For more information and to register, go to northwestconference.org. Register by May 2.
Team World Vision
Our denomination, in partnership with World Vision, brings life-saving relief to the poorest of the poor in the Congo. As part of this effort each year, Faith Covenant gathers a team of people who commit to running either a half or full marathon. Runners can be new or seasoned athletes, of either gender, and a variety of ages and fitness levels. Those unable to run can sponsor runners with financial gifts and/or prayer. For more information contact Faith’s team captains: Kavan at firstname.lastname@example.org or Mandy at email@example.com.
Parent Class for Infant Baptism/Dedication
If you would like to either baptize or dedicate your child, please register to attend the one hour parent class at 9am on April 10. Class is followed by a celebration and welcome for your child during a later worship service. A parent application is required by Monday, April 4 (before class); please request one from Jen at firstname.lastname@example.org, or download it from the Care/Life Events Ministry tab on Faith’s website, faithcovenant.org.
