“I have seen the Lord!”
Posted on Mar 24, 2016 in Faith Updates
What did she sound like when she said those words?
- Was she so in shock it was almost monotone?
- After running from the tomb was she out of breath when she said it?
- Was she dancing and giggling?
- Did she shout it?
“I have seen the Lord!”
And then how many other times did she say those words?
“Mother, you have to believe me! I have seen the Lord!” “Dad, no, truly! I have seen the Lord!” “Brothers, sisters, like I told you. I truly thought he was the gardener! But then when he said my name, ‘Mary!’ There’s no mistaking that voice! I know it seems unbelievable, but I am telling you I have seen the Lord!”
And then over the decades as her hair grew grey and her body more frail, how many times did she sit with her grandkids or nieces and nephews, and once again tell them the story of that Sunday morning so many years ago when she went to the tomb expecting to find death but instead found life. “Let me tell you again how I saw the Lord!”
I’ll bet at her funeral it was a recurring phrase: “We are sad Mary’s gone, but we’ll never forget the testimony of her life. She lived like someone who had truly seen the Lord.”
Encountering the risen Jesus changes everyone who’s seen Him. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 says:
“He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him.”
The early church was born out of people who truly believed they had seen the Lord—not a ghost, not a spirit, but a fully resurrected, physical, God-in-the-flesh Jesus.
This Sunday morning we will gather at Faith Covenant Church for two services to declare that we too have seen the Lord! We’ve encountered Him! He’s changed us! We’ll never be the same! And we will simply have to shout it out loud: “We have seen the Lord!”
I pray you’ll bring your family and friends to encounter Him too!
True life-change happens when people encounter the risen Lord.
Can’t wait to celebrate!
