IN VS. OUT

Posted on Mar 27, 2014 in Faith Updates

Army

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the idea of “in vs. out.” So often, we draw lines in the sand between who is “in” and who is “out.” We do this with friends because not everyone can be invited to the birthday party.  We do this with family even, because Great Step-Aunt Mildred won’t be invited to every Christmas celebration. Can we afford to do this with our faith? Can we afford to do that at Faith?

Obviously, there must be a sense of “us” that does not include everyone all the time. But have you ever thought about which of “them” in your daily life really need an “us” to be a part of? What cost are you willing to pay to make that happen?

As we have walked through the first two weeks of our series Won’t You Be My Neighbor, I’ve been considering all of this and wondering when “loving my neighbor as [my]self” requires me to get uncomfortable and reach out beyond my normal routines. What have you been contemplating during this series?

See you Sunday,

Brian Martin

Here are some things we want you to know about in the coming weeks:

Easter Flowers

If you would like to donate flowers for Easter Sunday in honor or memory of a loved one, there is an opportunity in the lobby to do so. Flowers will be offered by free will donation and will be on display Easter Sunday. They will then be donated to Meals On Wheels the week after Easter to be delivered to shut-ins.

Tough Questions from Parents Class

Jim and Lynne Jackson are coming back for a followup to the parenting workshop they did in January. For this one evening only, Wed., Apr. 2, 6:15-8pm, Jim and Lynne will answer as many questions from you as they can get through. Send your questions to lnunn@faithcovenant.org ahead of time and they will prepare as many as they can.

Membership Classes

Whether you’re new to Faith Covenant or you’ve been here awhile; if you’re looking for information or for ways to get further connected, you’re invited to join us for a two-part membership class on Wednesdays April 9 & 16 at 6pm. You’ll get a chance to meet and talk with Faith’s pastors, learn about the Covenant denomination and Faith Covenant in more detail, and dialogue with us about what it looks like to be an active part of a local church. Childcare is provided. Contact Jen at jsorensen@faithcovenant.org to reserve your spot.

Infant Baptism/Dedication Class

If you are the parent of a little one and desire to either baptize or dedicate your child, please register to attend our parent class scheduled for 9:30am on April 13. Parent application is due before class, on April 7 to jsorensen@faithcovenant.org.

Women’s Spring Bible Study

Please join us for Bible Study on Tuesday, April 1st as we dive into “The 7 Experiment,” By Jen Hatmaker. Through this study, you’ll start the same experiment that Jen and her family experienced, at whatever level you choose, in seven key areas: food, clothes, spending, media, possessions, waste, and stress. As a result of the experiment, Jen discovered a greatly increased God, a call to Christ-like simplicity, and a building generosity that radically changed the way she lived. We hope you will join us for either the morning (9:30) or evening (6:30) session. The bible Study will run 9 weeks from April 1st- May27th. RSVP to jsorensen@faithcovenant.org, especially if you would like to take advantage of childcare during the morning session. Book $13
