Faith Covenant Church

Mere Words on a Page

Posted on Jun 2, 2016 in Faith Updates

So I bought myself a new daily devotional journal a few days ago… because I find it super helpful to actually engage with a text or a thought, writing and reflecting a bit about its impact on my daily life. Otherwise, it’s too easy to just read God’s Word, as I would read a novel or a newspaper or journal article. In and out… mere words on a page.

And yet – God’s Word is intended to be so much more! It is given to us as a LIVING document, designed to bring life and light and hope and healing, to convict and challenge and bring about change, in the most practical of ways.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13

When I not only read the text, but actually interact it and open the deepest places in my heart, I can’t help but be changed. Praise God for that, because me left to my own devices would be a pretty scary thing…

Friends, there is beautiful freedom in exposing the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves to God’s Word and to God’s Love. Because nobody loves us like God does, and nobody can provide hope and life and peace to us like God can. When God’s Word is alive and active in my life, I can truly say (as we sung on Sunday morning) that …

It Is Well With My Soul!

May God do His thing with you between now and Sunday,
Pastor Char

Here’s What’s Happening at Faith

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting for Faith Covenant Church will be held at 11:45am on Sunday, July 10. We will be electing two new members to the church council and voting on the budget for 2016-2017. A Town Hall meeting to review the budget and answer any questions you may have will be held on Wednesday, July 6 at 10am and 6:30pm. Both meetings will cover the same information, so choose to attend either as fits your schedule.

Name Tag Sunday

To encourage community and give us all the opportunity to get to know someone new in the congregation, we ask that you wear a name tag this Sunday, June 5, during the worship service. They will be in the lobby on the high-top tables or at the welcome desk. Please write one out before coming into the worship center. We will continue to do this the first Sunday of every month.

Benevolence Offering

This Sunday, June 5, we will receive our monthly retiring offering as as part of the worship service. All money will go to the Benevolent Fund at Faith Covenant. This fund is wholly separate from the operations budget at Faith and is managed through the Deacon Team. Money from this fund is gifted to those in our faith community who are struggling financially. Please give generously, as you feel led.

Children’s Ministry Summer Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to serve in our Children’s Ministry area during the summer months. Volunteers need only serve once during this time, may be adults or teen helpers, and may work with babies or preschoolers. Please contact Shelly at 612.710.2544, or by calling the church office: 952.890.3110.

Decision America Tour with Franklin Graham

Franklin Graham is traveling to all 50 states in 2016 to hold prayer rallies, to preach the Gospel, and to challenge believers to take a stand and take action. He’ll be urging Christians to vote, to live out their faith in every part of their lives, and to pray for our nation. The Minnesota rally is scheduled for 12noon on June 16 at the state capital in Saint Paul. A bus will be provided to bring any interested Faith Covenant attenders to the rally. It will leave from Berean Baptist Church (309 E Cty Rd 42) at 10:45am, returning at 2:15 pm. Go to decisionamerica.com for more information about the rally.

Student Mission Trip Fundraisers

This July, 17 junior and senior high students and 4 leaders will travel to Fairmount, IL, with TeenServe to paint, repair homes and form relationships with homeowners. Next Sunday, June 12, the “Wall of Money” will be featured in the lobby to fundraise for the cost of the bus. Go to the “wall” in the lobby, decide how much you can give, and follow the directions from there. There are 150 ways to help, so there is something for everyone and every budget. We hope you can partner with our students and their families to make this affordable for all who are going on this life-changing mission. There will also be a donation board for some necessary tools that you could help provide as well.

All Church Garage Sale for Missions

Faith’s All-Church Garage Sale returns this summer on July 14 & 15. All proceeds will go to the MOMS Program. You can help this sale be a success by gathering donations at home and/or volunteering to help! Donations for the sale will be accepted Sunday, July 10 from 12-7pm and Monday & Tuesday, July 11 & 12 from 5-8pm. Volunteers will be needed the week of July 10 for set-up, clean-up, or help on sale days. If you can help, please contact Rachel at rachlee@comcast.net.

Jonah Sermon Series Closing Prayer

We leave today, Lord, running to You, not away from You.
We carry the good news of Your grace
for You are merciful and compassionate,
slow to anger, filled with unfailing love.
Make us ambassadors of the peace of Christ
as we swim in the unforced rhythms of Your grace.
Amen
