Oh the Difference a Day Makes

Posted on Jan 26, 2018 in Faith Updates

Sunday morning we’re talking about being intentional with our time. Boy did God give us an object lesson this week!

  • Monday 9:30am: I’m driving to an appointment. Roads are clear, a few gentle flakes are falling.
  •  Monday 11am: Appointment done. Snow needs to be brushed off my car. Roads are slippery.
  • Monday noon: Snowing heavily
  • Monday 2pm: Took the dog out and let her romp and leap in snow taller than her!
  • Monday 9pm: A foot of snow on the ground, snow still falling, plows haven’t come through yet

If the snow had ended Monday at 11am, this wouldn’t have been a big deal. Even Monday at 2pm would have given people the chance to shovel out and plow out. School would likely have taken place on Tuesday.

But heavy snow, over time, created slowdowns and shutdowns. Over time, a snowfall became dangerous, stopping traffic and closing schools.

How does time affect our lives? Well, quite often something done over time becomes a habit, and habits become priorities, and priorities shape our lives. But even something either said or done only one time can change the trajectory or a life or a relationship. The way we spend our time matters!

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17

See you Sunday as we look more closely at what God’s Word says and how Jesus prioritized His time. In the meantime, enjoy the winter wonderland!

Memory Verse of the Week

Pastor Brad issued a challenge to our faith family in the December 28, 2017 blog post: to memorize 52 Bible verses in 52 weeks for 2018. These verses will be posted each week in this Faith Update blog and will be in the worship folder each Sunday. Here is the verse for the fourth week of 2018: Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. John 14:21
