Opening Ourselves to the Spirit’s Guiding
Posted on Nov 3, 2017 in Faith Updates
“Since we are living by the Spirit,
let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”
Over the past year, I have been meeting almost weekly with Faith’s own Rick Drenk so I too might grow as a disciple of Jesus. Rick and I are journeying through a biblically focused discovery process he developed called Essentials for Spiritual Growth. A number of us at Faith have or are going on this journey so we might walk with others in the same journey as we make disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus.
Presently, Rick and I are studying the topic Living by the Power of God’s Spirit. It’s been incredibly edifying and helping me grow in my trusting of God’s power and direction in my life. Each time Rick and I get together he opens in prayer and I close our time in prayer. As I closed in prayer this past Tuesday I said something like, “And I pray, Lord, You would guide us through the rest of this day…” After I said “amen” Rick gently corrected me: “And I thank You, Lord, You are guiding us. Give us what we need to discover Your guidance.” A subtle change of wording but a profound difference in emphasis! Rick reminded me the Spirit of God is always guiding us. Our task is to be attentive to the Spirit’s guiding and letting the Spirit lead us.
As I think about our life at Faith Covenant Church, what a gift to know the Spirit of Jesus (the Holy Spirit) is always present and guiding us! Thank You, Lord! But we have a responsibility in the journey. Will we let the Spirit lead? Will we let the Spirit lead how we reach out to our neighbors? Will we let the Spirit lead as we build a church making disciples? Will we let the Spirit lead the refresh of our building?
This next week we will be holding three Circles of Support meetings for our Transform Capital Campaign (see the announcement below). In each of these meetings the good news is the Holy Spirit will be guiding us! What a gift! May we all pray for the ears to hear and the eye so see where and how God is guiding us, so together we might let Him lead.
In this with you and Him,
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Daylight Saving Time this Weekend
Don’t forget to turn your clocks BACK one hour this Saturday night (Sunday morning) for the end of Daylight Saving Time.
Supporting the Transform Capital Campaign
We are asking everyone who calls Faith Covenant Church home to join us for 1 of 3 meetings to learn how we might together pool our resources to support the interior refresh of our building. These “Circle of Support” meeting dates are: Sunday, November 5 at 4pm; Tuesday, November 7 at 7pm; and Thursday, November 9 at 7pm. The gathering will include time for conversation, refreshments and your invitation to support our capital campaign. You will not be required to offer your financial commitment at this event. Please watch for a mailed invitation and rsvp as to the meeting you will attend, especially if you need childcare.
Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Donations
Operation Christmas Child uses gift-filled shoeboxes to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Every shoebox is a powerful tool that transforms the lives of children and their families through the Good News of Jesus! You can help by donating a filled box, praying, or volunteering in the processing/shipping of these gifts. Stop by the table in the lobby to get more information and supplies. Filled shoe-boxes need to be returned by Sunday, November 12.
Celebrate the Child Bring-a-Friend Event
What better way to begin the Advent season than by gathering together to hear the story of Christmas in a fresh, powerful way? Come to national actor/writer/comedian Curt Cloninger as he brings his one hour Christmas show, Celebrate the Child, to our church, Sunday, December 3 at 6:30pm. This family-friendly event is sure to bring laughter, reflection, and perhaps a tear as Curt intersperses the story amidst familiar Christmas carols. This is an excellent bring-a-friend event! Tickets are $10/adult, and $5 for children (children 4 and under are free), and will be for sale in the lobby starting next Sunday, November 12.

New Sunday Grow Class Start
3rd Grade Bible Presentation
Each year Children’s Ministry and Faith Covenant Church are honored to partner with our families in the presentation of a Bible to each of our 3rd grade students. This year we will present a Bible during worship service on November 12. Parents, please watch for a letter with information for you regarding this service. If you feel we do not have current information for your family or we have missed you, please contact Vicki or Lynn at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
Faith Kids Stepping Stones
FaithKids Stepping Stones is an optional class for kids to take with a parent or caregiver that centers around communion, baptism, the church body, and what it means to be a Christ-follower. It offers a chance for your child to take another step in their faith journey as young disciples of Jesus. Many children take this class as a requirement for participation in believer’s baptism at Faith, but a child may take this class at any time, and we recommend it for all children at some point. The class, Sunday, November 12 from 1-3pm, is open to children in grades 2-5 and includes a journal for them to continue using at home. RSVP to Lynn at firstname.lastname@example.org.
