Our Forever Home
Posted on Oct 7, 2016 in Faith Updates
After 15 years, 4 months, and a lifetime of memories (for our children anyway), we are moving. Not far – a mere 3.7 miles from our current address. But regardless of the distance, everything needs to be packed up and transferred from one house to another. Much work lies ahead of us in the next 5 weeks!
This home was never intended to be our “forever home.” This was our “child-raising, family home,” and it fit the bill beautifully. But 5 bedrooms seems overkill now, a split entry will likely get tough as we age, and I look forward to parking my car in a garage for the first time in 22 years.
Kirk and I have caught ourselves thinking (gratefully) of our new address as our “forever home,” that place where we can stay until either Jesus calls us home or we are no longer able to live unassisted (whichever comes first). We look forward to life after the move, when we can settle-in and make this new place our home.
But, oh how short-sighed we are! God, forgive me for limiting my dreams and filling my thoughts with things that are temporal. Oh how I love this world, but oh how infinitely more I look forward to my “forever home” with you, face to face! Your house alone is where I long to be… now and forever!
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life… Psalm 27:4
See you Sunday!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
October is Pastor Appreciation month!
Beginning Sunday, October 2 through Sunday, October 30, there will be a special card box located in the lobby should you desire to express your appreciation to Pastor Brad and Pastor Char by writing each of them a personal note. You are encouraged to share a story about how your life has been touched by the ministry they provide, a special moment you’ve shared with them or bless them by sharing your favorite scripture to be prayed for and over them. A small supply of note cards will be available each week by the box.
Whether you’re new to Faith Covenant or have been here awhile, you’re invited to join us for membership classes at 11:45am on Sundays, October 23 & 30. You’ll get a chance to meet and talk with Faith’s pastors, learn about the Covenant denomination and Faith Covenant in more detail, and dialogue with us about what it looks like to be an active part of a local church. Childcare is provided. Sign up in the lobby or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot.
Wednesday GROW Night for Children & Youth
Wednesday night programs for children and youth began last night, Wednesday, October 5 at 6:15pm, but we still want your children/students to join in! Children, preK- grade 4, will check-in in the lobby and go to their classrooms. Grades 5-12 begin the night in room 150. There is a time change for Wednesday night activities. They now end at 7:45pm.
We are having a Harvest Festival October 28, 5-8pm, for children of all ages. There will be carnival games, treats, a bounce house, and a few concession options for dinner. There will be minimal costs for food, but the event itself is FREE! Invite your neighbors! We are asking the congregation to donate bags of candy and to volunteer. Contact Nick at email@example.com for more information or sign up to help at the Youth Station in the lobby.
Sugar Time Baking
Women of Faith, join the M.O.M.S. Program and Women’s Ministry as we partner together to bake cookies that will support the MOMS Christmas Bake Sale Fundraiser. Please bring your favorite recipe(s) and any special ingredients needed (basic ingredients provided). Sign up with Kathryn at firstname.lastname@example.org or 952.890.5072. Krumkake baking is Friday, November 11 at 11am. All are welcome!
M.O.M.S. is currently looking for women of faith to come alongside our single moms to serve as mentors and prayer partners. M.O.M.S. (Making our Moms Successful) has been equipping single moms to build healthy, stable homes for their children since 1990. If you would like to learn more about these opportunities, please call Jenny Cooper, Program Manager, at 952-890-5072 or email her at email@example.com.
