Spring & New Life
Posted on May 28, 2014 in Faith Updates
Romans 6:13 says, “Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life…”
This idea of transitioning from death to life is theme that is woven throughout scripture, and shows up prominently in the letter to the Romans. Spring always reminds me of this idea. Trees that looked barren and bare just weeks ago are now teeming with life. Each winter, we know that (eventually…eventually) spring will come and bring new life. At least we hope so.
I wonder if we have the same hope for the people in our lives that don’t know Christ? Do we assume that they live in eternal, spiritual winter? Or do we have hope – even expectation – that God can and just might begin to work in them and through them? He might even use us to help introduce that life if we seek opportunities for it. May spring remind us that the hope of Christ is a hope intended for all people – even, and especially, for those who do not yet have the life of Him within them!
Here are some things happening at Faith in the coming weeks:
Do you know what event has more visitors than any other at Faith? If you guessed Easter or Christmas, you’d be wrong; it’s VBS week! August 4-8, we’ll be serving 300+ kids, and we need 200+ volunteers to make that happen. That means we need YOU. There are opportunities before, during, and after VBS week. Please stop at the SHINE display in the lobby to get your volunteer registration form. We need all volunteers signed up by July 1. All volunteers must attend an important training on either July 13 or July 31.
On Sunday we are welcoming a fantastic group of people into our membership at Faith Covenant and we’d like you to join them! Because schedules can be tight and we have an annual meeting coming up this month, we are offering a one-day membership intensive class. Whether you’ve been here a few months or a few decades, if you’re interested in membership, please join us on Saturday, June 7 from 8:30am-1pm. We do need a minimum number in order to hold this class, so be sure to RSVP by June 1 if you plan to attend! Contact Jen at email@example.com.
June all-church worship/picnic
We’re looking forward to worshipping and fellowshipping together as a united group this summer! For two Sundays – the last Sunday of June (29th), and the last Sunday of July (27th) – we will worship together at 9:30am only and will then enjoy an all-church picnic and outdoor games (on-site) beginning at 11am. Plan to join us for some summer fun!
Launch Support Team
We want to come alongside our graduating seniors in the transition to the next phase of their lives, so we are asking adults in our church family to get involved by joining one or more student’s Transition Support Team. TST members will pray for the student and offer resources and general support for the next six months (what we feel is the most critical time of their transition). To join a team, please sign up in the lobby. We particularly need people willing to join the teams of some of our less-connected-to-FCC students.
Women’s Ministry Summer Walking Club
Back by popular demand! Beginning on Friday, June 13, we will gather every Friday at 9am to enjoy a walk and fellowship. Women of all ages with strollers, children, and friendly dogs are welcome! Our first walk will begin at Faith, but walking sites will vary weekly after that. Contact Natalie at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Revive Twin Cities
Be a part of a life-changing mission trip to our own city! Revive Twin Cities is praying for 10,000 laborers to share the love of Jesus, July 21-27, and Faith Covenant has made a faith pledge of 200 volunteers to join this revival team. Children of any age are welcome, meals are provided and the schedule is flexible. Outreach Trainings are not required but are very helpful. Training dates are May 23-24, June 13-14, and/or July 11-12. For more details and to register for training, visit www.reviveTWINCITIES.org.
Children’s Ministry Reminder
This is just a reminder that the Children’s Ministry will begin their Summer Sunday Programming schedule starting this Sunday, June 1st. There will be nursery available for ages 0-4 during both services (9:30 & 11), and programming for all students up to 4th grade during the 11am service. If there are any questions, please contact Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Erin Foley – email@example.com
