There are a lot of exciting things happening at Faith, but I also realize that recent changes and current transitions can be uncomfortable and unsettling. Two months have passed since Pastor Mike left and Pastor John’s position transitioned, and nowthat the initial waves have settled a bit and the reality of a Senior Pastor search process has hit home, some of us just feel tired.
If this is you, and you’re feeling exhausted, perhaps it’s time to revisit the story of the Israelites in the desert. You know the story: Moses freed the Israelite slaves from Pharaoh’s hand and, after the initial waves had settled a bit and the reality of a long period of wandering in the desert hit home, many of them just felt tired. 40 years of wandering left the Israelites exhausted, and some even left the community to worship other gods, choosing to leave their “pack”.
I know it can be easy for us to look at those Israelites and shake our fingers and think, “those guys are foolish for leaving the pack.” But before we do so, I think some of us can admit that we too are exhausted, because we are facing our third senior pastor search process in 7 years. And we might even feel like giving up and leaving the pack.
So, let me say this. Please don’t leave The Church (God’s pack), and please don’t leave this particular building/church (Faith Covenant’s pack) just because you’re tired, or angry, or bitter. Instead, consider your role during this time of transition. We need each other more than ever, right now! We need you – your prayers, your participation, your patience, your trust in God’s provision. Remember that the Israelites were indeed delivered from the desert into the promised land, in God’s perfect timing. This is the hope that we cling to.
As we look together at our shared hope, our shared future, we invite your honest questions, comments, and concerns. To this end, you are invited to a time of open “Conversations with the Council,” either this Sunday at 11am or April 12th at 12:15pm (Legacy Chapel). Please bring your honesty, your grace, and your desire to be an integral part of this church, today and tomorrow.
See you Sunday,
HERE’S WHAT’S COMING UP
On Easter Sunday, as we focus on the Risen Christ, all who feel a tug to commit their lives to Christ and to live as members of God’s family will be invited to come to the waters of baptism. If you would like to talk/pray about this opportunity, please contact Pastor John at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sticky Faith Parenting Class
Join us each Wednesday in April from 6:30-8pm for a fresh and honest look at parenting strategies and to discover new ideas that work. Great for parents, grandparents or anyone who cares for children. Register by going to faithcovenant.org/ministries/children-youth-family/ and click the “parents” button.
If you would like to donate flowers for Easter Sunday in honor or memory of a loved one, you may do so in the lobby today and next Sunday. Flowers will be offered by free-will donation and will be on display Easter Sunday. All flowers will then be donated to Meals On Wheels to be delivered to shut-ins the week after Easter.
“Killing Jesus”: National Geographic Documentary
Faith staff has had a lot of good feedback regarding this book that National Geographic has made into a documentary. With Easter Sunday approaching, we would encourage anyone interested to view it on Sunday evening, March 29 at 7pm on the National Geographic network.
Women’s Spring Bible Study
All women are invited to join the spring Bible study on Tuesdays at 9:30am or 6:30pm, starting March 31. We will study “The Shelter of God’s Promises”. Childcare is offered during the morning session to those who preregister. Register online at faithcovenant.org/womens-ministry/ or at the welcome desk in the lobby.
Whether you’re new to Faith Covenant or have been here awhile, you’re invited to join us for membership classes at 12:15pm on Sundays, April 19 and 26. You’ll get a chance to meet and talk with Faith’s pastors, learn about the Covenant denomination and dialogue with us about what it looks like to be an active part of a local church. Childcare and lunch is provided. Sign up in the lobby or email Jen at email@example.com to reserve your spot.
Join us at 7pm, Friday, April 3 for a Good Friday Experience. As part of the service, there will be three optional stations that will allow everyone to experience Good Friday through foot washing, communion and placing sins on the cross.
Sunday is the last day to donate your unwanted clothes, accessories and linens to help students get to the CHIC conference. Thank you to all who donated. We filled up the box more than once! The Wall-O- Money donation board will be up through March 29 in the lobby. Thank you for your generosity. We have raised $3,277.
