The Jesus Value

Posted on Sep 18, 2014 in Faith Updates

This week, our 7-12th graders talked about the Rich Young Ruler from Mark 10. In this story, Jesus challenges a man who values his possessions above all other things.

It’s interesting that we talk about “family values” or “personal values” and rarely think about that our values literally represent what we value most. What do you value most? Jesus wants to be your number one value, the number one object of your affection, and the primary place you go for comfort and joy. Is he that for you? Really?

Our students are being challenged to fast from something over the next three weeks to help them stay focused on Jesus as primary. We’d appreciate your prayers for them (and for the leaders, too!) as they strive to surrender more and receive the awesomeness of who God is through this discipline. Be blessed this week!

See You Sunday,

Here’s What’s Coming Up

Small Group Launch

Last Sunday we invited people to stop at tables in the lobby and get involved at Faith by signing up for one of the many small group opportunities offered. If you missed it, don’t worry, there is still time to get involved! Pick up a Fall Ministry Brochure at the Welcome Desk and contact the small group leaders who are listed for each group. You may also contact the Small Group Leadership Team to discuss your options at: smallgroups@faithcovenant.org

Pinstripes Volunteer Appreciation

Join us for a great post-church gathering on Sunday, September 28 to celebrate all our FCC volunteers. On this day, Pinstripes of Edina has graciously offered to host only Faith Covenant from 11am-3pm as we say thanks to our volunteers and their families. Bowling and bocce ball will be free, and brunch will be 1/2 off from 11am-1pm. Come join the fun!

Women’s Ministry Mug Club

Mug Club is back and better than ever! Come sip, talk, share your day, and connect with other women. We will host Mug Club once a month at Faith beginning September 29 at 7pm. The hot beverage will be provided – all you need to bring is a mug. Hot tea or decaf coffee will also be available. Come connect with old friends and hopefully meet some new ones! For more information, contact womensministry@faithcovenant.org.

Finding Freedom Through Forgiveness

Has someone wronged or hurt you? Discover how forgiveness can help you break free from bitterness and pain and offer a pathway to freedom. Join us for a workshop at Faith, sponsored by Prayer Ventures, on Saturday, September 27 from 9am-12noon. There is no charge for the event, but a free-will offering will be taken. For more information or to sign up, go to www.prayerventure.org or contact Sharon Auldrich at 952.890.6749.

Membership

Whether you’re new to Faith Covenant or have been here awhile, you’re invited to join us for membership classes at 12:15 pm on Sunday, October 12 & 19. You’ll get a chance to meet and talk with Faith’s pastors, learn about the Covenant denomination and Faith Covenant in more detail, and dialogue with us about what it looks like to be an active part of a local church. Lunch is provided and childcare is available (if needed). Sign up in the lobby or email jsorensen@faithcovenant.org by October 5 to reserve your spot.
