The Reciprocating Self

Posted on Jan 14, 2016 in Faith Updates

This is the title of my current main textbook. What in the world does that mean? According to the author, the goal of human development is to grow in relationships (both with God and with others) and he asserts that healthy growth and development does not and cannot occur in a vacuum. We were not created to do life in isolation (whether physical or emotional) but rather we are created to do life in relationship.

Our model for a life lived in relationship is God Himself. God as Trinity, existing always as one God, yet three persons. It doesn’t get more intimate than that! As humans, we are created in the very image of this God, designed to live intimately in relationship with others. This is where we “find ourselves,” and this is the context in which we are able to become fully who we are created to be.

Relationships are beautiful, but they can be hard! They require both Give and Take. Speaking and Listening. Vulnerability. Trust. Safety. Commitment. It’s risky to open yourself up to someone else, to trust them with a piece of your heart. And yet this is exactly what is needed in order to live fully, as we were created to live.

I am so blessed to do life alongside so many of you, and I look forward to a year marked by deeper relationships!

See you Sunday!

Here’s What’s Happening at Faith

Sacred Parenting Class

Got kids? Expecting a child? Enjoying grandparenthood? Parenting is a school for spiritual formation—and our children are our teachers. In this soul-stretching study, Gary Thomas shows how everyday realities, from a toddler’s tantrums to a teenager’s silence, are used by God to transform us into his image. This 6-session course happens during the 9am Education Hour, and is on week 2. Please feel free to still join in.

Prime Time January Luncheon

All seniors at Faith Covenant are invited to have fellowship and a light lunch with other seniors at our January Prime Time lunch. It will be at 11:30am on Thursday, January 21, and is $5.00 per person. Please RSVP to care@faithcovenant.org by noon on Tuesday, January 19. Missionary Art Perri will speak.

A Heart to Serve?

Can you bless our seniors by helping prepare and/or serve lunch at Prime Time? We need help before, during and after lunch, and you get a free meal with other volunteer friends. Please consider helping in this important ministry! Contact Sally at askasg@msn.com.

Women’s Ministry Winter Study Kick-off

All women are invited to a mid-winter fellowship time at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 3. We will hang out, play games and just catch up. You can also find out more information about our winter Bible study, based on the book “Armor of God” by Priscilla Shirer. Study will begin the week of February 15.

Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack

All at Faith Covenant are invited to be a part of the hunger solution through a Feed My Starving Children MobilePack on February 1-6. This is an opportunity to learn about hunger related issues, pray for those in need, raise funds to cover the cost of meals and pack meals for the hungry. This year’s event will be held at 15125 Cedar Ave in Apple Valley (formerly Rainbow Foods). Sign up for shifts in the lobby at Faith or go to http://www.fmsc.org/mobilepack/events#Minnesota and choose the Apple Valley, South Metro Pack. As part of our fundraising support we are asking families to pick up an M&M tube in the lobby, eat the chocolate, and return the container, filled with quarters. This year’s packing goal is to pack four million meals! For questions, contact Jayne at jayne.stolt@mchsi.com.

Missions Garage Sale

Faith’s annual missions garage sale is returning this summer on July 14-15. All proceeds from the sale this year will benefit the M.O.M.S. Program. Lots of help will be needed to receive, sort and price items. Save your stuff and the date! More details to come at a later date.
