Imagine this scene. You’re having a party at your house. All your friends are there. The music is playing. The food is extravagant. Everyone’s having a joyous time! Then a knock comes at the door. Everyone’s busy enjoying the party, though, so no one answers the door. The knock comes a second time, but still no one moves to open the door. The knock comes a third time—still no one moves. Finally the door opens. It’s Jesus!
“May I come in?” He says.
People turn their heads and see the Lord walking into the party, but everyone is so busy enjoying their friends and the food, no one really welcomes Him. So Jesus makes His way over to the food counter and fills His plate and then stands over in the corner by the potted fern, but still no one walks over to welcome Him! He finishes His food, places His plate in the sink, and then turns and says, “Well…I guess I’ll be taking off now. Thanks!” But still no one responds! Jesus walks out the door.
Now, this is a ridiculous illustration, right?! If Jesus walked into our party, we’d bend over backwards to welcome Him. We’d stop everything we were doing and honor Him and express our gratitude for His arrival, right?! Hmmm…
Fifteen centuries ago, St. Benedict of Nursia established 12 communities of men/monks for the cultivation of prayer and a Christ-centered life. Paramount to their Christian community was hospitality. In fact, the foundation of Benedictine hospitality is still stated as follows:
“All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for He himself will say: ‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me’ (Matt 25:35).”
In just over two weeks, Faith Covenant Church will welcome hundreds of guests to our Sunday morning Easter service. Some of them will walk in not knowing where to go or what to do. Some of them will be dragged there by family members. Some will wish that morning they were any place but a church. What a wonderful opportunity we have that day and every Sunday to welcome all guests as if we were welcoming Christ Himself!
This spring we are raising the bar of Faith Covenant hospitality. Anna Farrell, our new guest services coordinator, is right now looking for loving, friendly people like you to serve Sunday mornings and assure we welcome our visitors as if we are welcoming Christ.
Who knows?! Your smile and welcome might help change a life!
You can contact Anna at email@example.com.
Can’t wait ’til Easter!
Here’s What’s Happening at Faith
Easter at Faith
This Easter, Resurrection Sunday will be Restoration Sunday. Together we will celebrate the amazing way Jesus restores our lives to make masterpieces for His kingdom. Easter will be a great opportunity to invite friends and family who do not have a church home to Faith, so be in prayer now for whom you might invite! We will celebrate with two services April 16, 9 and 11am.
Easter Sunday Flowers
If you would like to donate flowers to be displayed Easter Sunday in honor or memory of a loved one, please fill out an order slip in the lobby. We will accept orders through Sunday, April 9. Flowers will be offered by free will donation and then delivered to shut-ins by Meals On Wheels the week after Easter.
Easter E-vite and Facebook Banner
How about letting your Facebook and email friends know when our Easter services will be held?! Click HERE to download an Easter graphic that can be sent in an email or used as your Facebook banner on your homepage. This is a very easy, non-threatening way to open the door to conversations about how much God loves each of us! Let’s share that with those we care about!
Easter volunteers…We need YOU! Looking for individuals to volunteer Easter Sunday, April 16, at the 9 or 11am service to welcome, usher, provide coffee and nursery care. Please fill out the card that will be in the worship folder this Sunday and drop it off at the welcome desk or email Anna at firstname.lastname@example.org. There will be a drawing for those that volunteer for a lunch with Pastor Brad.
Faith Family on The City
We are excited to announce that our church family will soon be using an on-line tool called “The City”! This platform will extend our capacity for community and ministry by giving us a place to join groups, build relationships and find new ways to connect and do ministry together. We will launch next Sunday, April 9. Watch for an email that offers you a link to join (it’s not spam)! Also, because the City offers the ability to act as a digital directory, a photo opportunity will be offered so you will have a profile picture to use.
New Member Classes
If you’ve been attending Faith Covenant for awhile and feel like now is the time to consider membership within our “Family of Grace,” we’d love to have you join us for our next round of New Member classes. Classes will be held on Wednesday nights, April 26 and May 3, from 6:15-7:45pm. New Member Sunday will be May 21. To save your spot, contact Ellen, email@example.com. Childcare available by request.
We will be offering believer baptism during worship, Sunday, April 30. All who have received Christ as Lord and Savior and have not been baptized are invited to participate. To make sure we’re partnering well and praying for you ahead of time, you must meet with Pastor Char before Easter Sunday (April 16). Contact Char at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an appointment.
If you’re new to Faith Covenant and/or looking to connect here, plan to join us for a free lunch and delightful conversation with Pastor Brad on Sunday, April 23, 11:45am-1pm. Childcare is provided by reservation to email@example.com. Please contact Ellen, firstname.lastname@example.org, with dietary needs.
Galactic Starveyors Camp
The Galactic Starveyors Camp on-line information page is up and ready to take registrations. Volunteers and children can register HERE. VBS will be held June 12-15. The cost is $10 per child which includes a t-shirt.
Romania Clothing Drive
We will be collecting clothing and accessories (including shoes, jewelry, hats, scarves and coats) to support the Romania mission trips this summer. Bring your donations to the box by the east door upstairs from April 5 to May 1. DAV will pay us per pound for your donations. What a great way to get your closets cleaned out and help this mission loving orphans in Romania!
