Who Am I?

Posted on Jan 10, 2018 in Faith Updates

What if everyone in the United States woke up on January 1, 2018 with amnesia? We had no idea our name or profession. The people around us were nothing but a mystery—walking question marks. Our shout out to the ether, “Who am I?” only met with a chorus of “I don’t know! Who am I?”

What would we do?!!!

We could open our wallets and maybe find a driver’s license, but the information there would only provide a name, an address, some vitals.

The dwelling we woke up in would be helpful to tell us where we live, but it wouldn’t tell us what to do in the living. Perhaps some further investigation might uncover a profession—accountant, teacher, lawyer, mechanic. But none of that information would tell us why we live.

Sadly, this is the way many of us are walking into 2018. We know our name, address, vitals and perhaps a profession, but we still struggle with our identity: Who are we?

Thus, we are spending the first month of our new year investigating how we might live intentionally in 2018. To be intentional is to be purposeful, deliberate. Last week I shared a message called Intentional Church. If you missed it, I pray you will listen to it online. It gave a good picture as to where we are as a church and practical challenges to move forward in our journey with Jesus.

This week we will look at our identity as a people. This is vital because when we know who we are, we know what to do. If we don’t know who we are, we won’t know what to do. Or if who we believe ourselves to be is false, we will intentionally live lives based on a falsehood. The world would like to tell us we are an accident or a commodity. The Bible tells us something quite different. I pray you’ll join us and bring a friend!

In Christ alone,
Pastor Brad

Here’s What’s Happening at Faith

Memory Verse of the week

Pastor Brad issued a challenge to our faith family in the December 28 blog post: to memorize 52 Bible verses in 52 weeks. These verses will be posted each week in this Faith Update blog and will be in the worship folder each Sunday. Here is the verse for the second week of 2018:  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.   Galatians 2:20
