One Small Step Empowered by Us

Remember what you saw on July 20, 1969? Many of you were not even born, of course! I was three years old at the time, but I do remember the black and white image of Neil Armstrong’s one small step from the ladder of NASA’s Apollo 11 to the surface of the moon. How was that possible?!

Well, up there were three ordinary Americans—Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. But down here there was a team of thousands necessary for just that first step. Astronaut Michael Collins put it this way:

“All this is possible only through the blood, sweat, and tears of thousands of people… All you see are the three of us, but underneath the surface are thousands and thousands of others.”

According to author Catherine Thimmesh there were about 400,000 others who helped make that mission a success.

Think of the team it took! There were spacesuit seamstresses, radio telescope operators, parachute designers, some 17,000 engineers, mechanics, soldiers, contractors, and other workers set up the enormous missile for the launch. Get this! Approximately 500 people worked on the space suit alone!

No wonder astronaut Neil Armstrong would later say that as he took his first step on the moon he immediately thought about all those 400,000 people who had given him the opportunity to make that first step.

Of course, the same is true for any person who makes that first step of faith in Christ Jesus! It takes a family of faith to grow a child of faith. This is why God in His perfect wisdom created the local church, the family of God, to partner with families at home.

It’s for this reason we’ve designated January to be Family Life Month here at Faith! Our focus this month is answering this fundamental question: How can each of us be a Christ-like blessing in the families God has placed us? Both our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening ministries will focus on equipping kids, teens, adults, singles, moms, dads, grandparents to love well in the manner of Jesus.

I especially hope you’ll join us on Wednesday evenings! Here’s the schedule:

    • 6:15 Dinner (Register on Realm. Call the church office if you have questions.)
    • 7:00 Family focused learning opportunities for the whole family
    • 8:00 Dismissal

Lives are changing here at Faith!

Join in the journey and grow the blessing!

See you Sundays and Wednesdays!
