Faith,
I have an important question for you today: How did we end up here?
I think this is a universal question. Over time, on the journey of life, there come times of reflection when we marvel and shake our heads at the now. “Wait a second! I thought we’d be there, but now we’re here. How did we end up here?!” Depending upon the “here,” we end up either in gratitude or regret. Regret often stems from driving our own bus; gratitude from letting God take the wheel.
In our journey through Genesis, Israel and his family have ended up in the court of Pharaoh, rescued from starvation by the son the brothers sold into slavery–Joseph. One can hear the gratitude in Israel’s voice as this week we’ll see him reunited with Joseph, the son he thought certainly dead. “How did we end up here?” I imagine the brothers asking. The answer is simple: Joseph let God drive the bus, and God’s the best bus driver!
How’s your “here” going? Gratitude or regret? The good news is that no matter the state of your “here,” God’s mercies are new every morning in the land of “here.” Through the work of His Son, God redeems every “here” if we’ll let Him. All He asks is that we trust Him with our here and now.
I pray you’ll join us this Sunday, as we find ourselves in a story that has endured for 3600 years! God’s story in Genesis is the foundation of Christ’s story for all of us. I’m going to welcome a special guest this Sunday, one of our missionaries–Larry Smoak. Together, all of us will discover Christ in the Beginning.
In Christ alone,
Pastor Brad
