Faith,
For the past five weeks, we have been exploring God’s call for His people to “Choose Life” in light of the Sixth Commandment: “Do not murder.” This Sunday, we will conclude our series on this commandment by examining three critical modern issues: abortion, physician-assisted suicide, and the death penalty.
My goal this week is not to debate every intricacy or policy argument surrounding these topics. Instead, I want to equip us with the biblical principles that compel Christians—even in the face of deep suffering and injustice—to consistently choose life, especially when our broader culture and even many churches lean toward death.
To anchor our hearts, we will once again find ourselves in God’s story. We live in the Already/Not-Yet of the kingdom. Jesus has ushered in His reign for all who trust in Him. He died for His enemies, rose in victory, and conquered Satan, sin, and death. He now sits entrhoned at the Father’s right hand and will one day return to eradicate evil forever. In between His first coming and return, we are called to pick up our crosses—our instruments of execution—and faithfully follow His way of sacrificial love.
Join us this Sunday as we explore what it truly means to honor the God of life in a world so bent on death.
