Faith,
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, an average American youth will witness around 200,000 violent acts on television by the time they turn 18. Whoa! Is this a problem? Why? What would be the solution?
Would you be surprised if I told you the root of the problem lies not in our media but in our worship? Turning off the television and limiting streaming for kids is a great and necessary first step, but unless our families understand the impact of wrong-hearted worship, we will miss the root of the problem. Since the day Cain killed Abel, we’ve missed the boat on the solution to our violence. Abel’s blood cries from the ground cries, “The long spiral of death has begun.” Jesus’ blood from the cross cries, “It is finished.”
