Faith,

Quick! You’re on an elevator, and the stranger next to you says, “I only have 30 seconds with you before I get off on the next floor. You look smart! How would you define faith?”

What would you say?

They quickly hit the button to stop the elevator. They’re fascinated by your answer. “Excellent! Great answer! I have another question! Quick! Before my meeting, can you tell me why grace is amazing?!”

What would you say?

Wow! They are so taken by your explanation that they call and cancel their meeting and invite you to coffee. You cancel your next appointment to oblige. They have all kinds of questions!

  • What is the relationship between faith and obedience?

  • If we say we have faith in God, aren’t we judging all other faiths as false?

  • Why is it impossible to please God without faith?

Wow! Good thing you attended Faith Covenant Church recently! You say, “You know we just talked about this at church! Yeah, our pastor on Sunday, May 26th, used the story of Noah and the ark to talk about faith. He focused on…what was it…Oh, right! Hebrews 11:7, ‘By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.’”

Your new friend is fascinated because you even had a simple illustration to explain faith and grace, and the Noah story helped tie it all together. You walk away from the encounter so thankful you were at church on Sunday, rather than at the cabin!

See you Sunday, Faith!

In Christ alone!
Pastor Brad
