Faith,

Do you remember your first love? If you’re having trouble remembering, let me remind you: their names are Mom and Dad.

Please hear me. I recognize many of us grew up with parents who did not love us well. It would be fair to say that many people experience their greatest heartbreaks from their parents. That is how powerful the roles of mom and dad truly are! Yet, would it be possible for us to be grateful for the greatest gift our parents ever passed down to us? They gave us life!

While it is true that God “knit us together” in our mother’s womb, He chose to use your mom and dad as the vessel. You are alive right now, reading these words and taking your next breath, because a man and a woman became a mom and a dad when you were born.

What do we do with these two imperfect people who are so foundational to our lives? The Fifth Commandment tells us:

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12

God knows we cannot build healthy lives, homes, communities, or churches without figuring out how to honor these two very important, very imperfect people.

I pray you will join us these next two weeks as we conform our lives to Christ by honoring our parents.

In Christ alone,

Pastor Brad
