Faith Family,
It’s a holiday weekend! This weekend, we commemorate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the day often cited as the official beginning of the United States. It’s a day with resonant impact. This pivotal moment set the stage for so many historic events that have followed, good and bad. This day has a global impact that will be studied for centuries to come.
But does it matter for Christians?
We’re called to be set apart, right?
We’re first and foremost citizens of heaven, right?
The kingdom of God is more important than America, right?
No doubt, there’s a lot of complexity to the relationship between Christians and America (or any other nation in which Christians reside). These are big ideas to wrestle with and would likely take a long time to do so. This Sunday, we’ll pause our series on the 10 Commandments to do a little bit of that wrestling about the relationship between America and the kingdom of God. In the meantime, I hope that you celebrate safely and don’t blow off your fingers with any fireworks.
In Christ,
Kavan Rogness
