Faith,

Suppose I came up to you and asked, “Did you hear about Chad? You didn’t hear? It’s outrageous what he did!! He’s clearly a…”

My guess is your heart doesn’t care much about Chad yet. Why? All I’ve given you is a name. If you know some Chads, you don’t know which Chad I’m talking about. If you don’t know a Chad, you’re even less inclined to care about Chad’s outrageousness.

But let’s change the scenario. What if Chad were your husband, son, brother, or father? Suddenly, the combination of the name, the person, and your love compels a deeper concern for him. Our love for a person compels respect and concern for how their name is used.

This Sunday, we’re going to begin a two-week journey into one of the most neglected of the Ten Commandments: “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” Exodus 20:7

Our culture has made an art form of misusing God’s name. It seems like every podcast, television show, and movie cares less and less about this command every year. As disciples of Jesus at Faith Covenant Church, we can’t fall into this trap. Why? Our love for God compels respect and concern for how His name is used.

I pray you will invite a friend and join us this Sunday as we seek to “Hallow God’s Name” at Faith Covenant Church.

In Christ alone,

Pastor Brad
