Faith,
Have you ever met someone famous face-to-face and thought, “I thought they’d be taller,” or perhaps you imagined they would be smaller? Maybe you thought their voice would be higher or deeper. It’s natural to visualize those we’ve come to know from afar, but often, our images of others are not accurate.
Question: What comes to mind when you picture God? It may seem strange, since God is invisible, yet most people have some image of Him in their mind. How helpful are those images? It really depends on how true they are.
Thankfully, God, in His wisdom, gave us clear guidance in the second commandment: “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them” (Exodus 20:4-5).
Simply put, “No idols!” Why? Because we can control our images. Think about how much time we spend trying to manipulate our world and others to be what we want—yet we cannot control another person, and certainly not God. Still, God knew we would need help to imagine who He is. That’s why He gave us Jesus! Our mission at Faith is to assist the world in rightly envisioning the One revealed in the Son!
This Sunday is full of blessings—Mother’s Day and a baptism! I’m excited to share the good news of the God who revealed Himself yesterday and continues to do so today for all who seek Him in truth.
In Christ alone,
Pastor Brad
