Faith,

How are you feeling about next week’s election? Fear, anxiety, and worry seem to be the most common emotions I see. I get it! Our candidates and media are exceptionally gifted at serving up recipes of dis-ease. Thankfully, we in the Church serve a different leader–Christ, our King, and we are not called to fix our eyes on CNN or Fox News. We are called to focus our hearts and minds “on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (Col. 3:1).

That’s what we’re going to do this Sunday. Through worship and prayer, we will do what Jesus-people do–worship and pray to our King. We will pray for that “peace that passes all understanding,” pray for our leaders, and pray for our enemies. We will join in the great chorus of the Church worldwide, the saints, and all the angels in heaven who cry out together:

May the peoples praise you, God;

    may all the peoples praise you.

May the nations be glad and sing for joy,

    for you rule the peoples with equity

    and guide the nations of the earth.

May the peoples praise you, God;

    may all the peoples praise you.

Psalm 67:3-5

Through prayer and worship, we will remember that God is not just the God of the United States but the King over all the nations of the earth. His kingdom’s peace is not like the world’s peace. His peace is an eternal peace won on the cross of victory 2000 years ago. We have no reason to be afraid!

In Christ the King,

Pastor Brad
