Faith,
Last Sunday, as 32 more of you signed up to be “Chosen” by a World Vision Child in Zambia, we made one more step in Faith Making History. We now sponsor 126 kids, Faith Cov! Of course, the question can be asked, “Does sponsorship through World Vision really make a difference?” Absolutely! Read these stories of life-change.
Event Siatontola from Southern Zambia grew up in a family of seven children. Through the World Vision sponsorship program, he was enrolled in school and received school necessities. World Vision’s work in his community included drilling boreholes for safe water and promoting hygiene/sanitation. Event went on to study accounting, earning a Bachelor’s degree, and now works as a Grants & Finance Accountant for World Vision Zambia. He says that he’s proud to serve in the organization that transformed his life, and that part of his job is ensuring funds are used responsibly so that the intended beneficiaries are helped.
World Vision sponsored Winfridah Hampeyo from Southern Zambia from about age 12. Her single mother had a limited income, struggled to get school supplies, and faced other challenges in obtaining necessities. Thanks to her sponsors, she completed her secondary school education and then university medical training. She recently graduated (2022) as a doctor of medicine & surgery from Lusaka Apex Medical University. Winfridah acknowledges that her sponsors and World Vision were continuously supportive, helping her through school, facilitating communication, and enabling her to reach a goal she “never even dreamt of” because of her earlier circumstances.
Some of you know that I’ve seen World Vision on the front lines as well! In 1996, I travelled to Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), where about 26-27% of adults aged 15-49, even today, are living with HIV. We visited the homes of orphans being parented by their older siblings because their parents had died from AIDS related illness. I saw the food security, education, and water initiatives up close. I also got to meet my sponsor child. What a gift!
Today, as I’m writing this, our own Kavan Rogness is in Zambia watching many of you get “Chosen” by your new sponsor child. The good news is that there is still time for you to sign up to be Chosen by a child in Zambia. The final sign-up cut-off time is Sunday, September 21st, by 8 pm CT. Everyone who signs up by this time will find out who chose them the weekend after this Sunday. You can do so right now by clicking here!
I know you’ll want to be with us this Sunday as Kavan shares with us how he saw God move in his Chosen trip to Zambia.
In Christ alone,
Pastor Brad
