Faith,

Hate is a strong word, but I don’t have fond memories of picking sides for playground games as a kid. Do you remember that feeling? The two captains flipped a coin or did paper, rock, scissors, and then the choosing began. When would I be picked?

First? No.

Second? Ugh!

Third? Ah, come on!

Last? Pretty please!

And then, of course, there were times when we were not picked at all! The humiliation! Just not good enough!

I think it’s common to project our playground embarrassments upon God. “God would never choose me! I’ve screwed up too many times. I don’t have the skills or the discipline. I’m just not good enough.”

This is why the Bible is so helpful! The stories we’ve been encountering in Genesis through our series, Christ in the Beginning, are stories of sinners and scalawags. Our hero this week is a liar and a deceiver on the run. No one would trust this guy for God’s team, but as he stops to make camp, heaven opens up and God chooses the most unlikely runaway to be part of the blessing for the whole world.

This is the story we find ourselves in. God’s word is the story every person needs to know because in it, He chooses you!

See you Sunday!

In Christ alone,

Pastor Brad
