Faith,

What’s your family’s story? While I think we’d all love to have parents who were Nobel Laureates, spouses who are rocket scientists, and siblings, sons and daughters who are saints and all-stars, but that’s typically not the case. That’s not even the case for Jesus’ family! Yes, His heavenly Father is God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and His mom and earthly father were devoted and righteous people of faith, but His ancestors were sinners, scalawags, fugitives, and exiles.

Could it be God meant for us to find some comfort in Jesus’ imperfect family line? Could it be that Jesus’ dysfunctional family was not Plan B, but God’s Plan A all along? After all, humanity’s sin is never a surprise to our all-knowing God. God’s Plan A was always that our understanding of amazing grace would extend beyond the hymn. The hymn is only relevant because we’ve experienced the grace that saves.

This week, as we continue our journey through Christ in the Beginning, Abraham’s grandson Jacob will find a wife — or two. It’ll be a long engagement process with twists and turns of deception, but the plan is unfolding to bless all peoples of the earth through Christ.

I pray you and your imperfect loved ones will join us! Reminder: No perfect people allowed

In Christ alone,
Pastor Brad
